Agostinis Italian Restaurant

Agostinis Italian Restaurant

Big on flavours and vibe, Kingston's best Italian joint may be attached to a hotel, but it’s the locals who keep the place packed. At over 200 seats, Agostinis is bigger than your average ACT haunt, but the restaurant’s three distinct dining spaces – including a plant-filled, heated outdoor terrace – give the venue a sense of proportion. The design is quirky – leopard print booths in one corner, wallpaper printed with bright pink fans lining another, while cappuccino and millennial pink ropes dangle from the ceiling, offering a double-whammy of looking cool and contributing to noise control. The menu, by chef Francesco Balestrieri, is all about housemade pasta and pizza cooked in a gloriously fire-powered Marana Forni oven. The food fuses elements of Balestrieri’s Roman background with specialties from Friuli, a region of the restaurant’s owners, the Bisa family. The frico – a Friuli specialty – is unmissable. Cooked in the pizza oven, it’s a little like a potato rosti – bitey cheese melted into pleasingly firm, thinly sliced potato with a perfectly crisped bottom. The salsiccia pizza, which mixes spicy ’nduja with fennel-spiked Italian sausage made especially for the restaurant, is also a stand-out. As for the pasta, order the slow-cooked lamb pappardelle – ribbons of pasta slightly flatter than spaghetti coated in rich ragu with osso buco, white wine and tomato. Wash it down with a glass (or bottle) of Canberra region winery Helm’s riesling: it’s fruity and acidic enough to

ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Martin Place

ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Martin Place

ANZAC Day marks the anniversary of the first day the Australian and New Zealand troops saw military action in Gallipoli back in 1915. In recent times it’s become a day of commemorating and remembering all Australians who have served in war. The annual dawn service held at Martin Place begins with the Catafalque Party and Band, followed by the ceremony from 4.20am by the Cenotaph. At 9am there is a march led by war veterans and their descendants, which will take place down Elizabeth Street. A commemoration service is held from 12.30 at the ANZAC Memorial in Hyde Park by the Pool of Remembrance. The sunset service takes place at the Cenotaph at 5pm. It is a shorter service to conclude the official commemorations, with the accompanyment of the NSW Ambulance Service Band.

Sydney by Kayak

Sydney by Kayak

The most challenging part of the Sunrise Kayak and Coffee tour is getting up before 5am – but rising early gives you glassy waters and glorious photo opportunities that’ll make your hungover friends incredibly jealous on a Sunday morning. Instructor Laura Stone, her husband Ben and their incredible team run dawn tours that make the most of Sydney Harbour before most people turn and hit snooze. They set up single kayaks at Lavender Bay Boat Ramp ready for the pre-sunrise meeting time – and while we’re learning the best way to hold our paddles, Laura is picking up everyone’s coffee orders from a local café. Each raft has a custom coffee holder, and the cups keep the brews warm until you’ve paddled under the Bridge. The harbour water is velvety smooth, and the kayaks are very stable so you don’t need to work hard to paddle around Luna Park and into position as the sunlight hits Sydney Opera House. Our fleet rafts up to enjoy the view, sipping flat whites and snapping away with our phones. There’s a photographer on each tour snapping pics that you can take home for free, but it's worth bringing a GoPro along if you have one for the ultimate action shots.  Though the kayaks have glass-bottom windows the water’s still too dark to reveal any sea life – however, we do spot a fur seal frolicking by Blues Point Reserve. After an hour or so of gentle paddling we glide over to Sawmillers Reserve to check out the shipwreck.  It’s one of the drier tours we’ve encountered; expect to get

Sal's Authentic New York Pizza

Sal's Authentic New York Pizza

Sal's is probably the only pizzeria in Sydney that can lay claim to serving an authentic New York slice. It's not that Sal's chooses to make a New York slice, it is that Sal's is a branch of the New York pizzeria established back in the 1970s in Little Neck, Queens and they have brought it to Sydney to ensure a true, New York slice. All the recipes have been developed by Sal himself, using Wisconsin mozzarella, Californian tomatoes and freshly milled flour from New York. Expect flavours like the classic cheese and pepperoni next to Sal's unique Buffalo chicken or meatball topped pies. Pizzas are all available by the slice and can be enjoyed next to garlic knots, pepperoni wheels, mozzarella sticks and buffalo wings with their signature set of dipping sauces. 22 ways to not be a knob in Sydney

22 ways to not be a knob in Sydney

1. Don't complain about how getting to North Sydney or Parramatta is too hard and can’t your mates just meet you in the city? There's a train for that and it's quite easy. 2. Stop moving in next door to live music venues and complaining about the noise. 3. Get to the front of the line at the Gelato Messina HQ, Malibu sandwich shop or Oti' pizza ready to order, no one likes a flavour waffler.  4. Pushing your way onto a train, tram or bus without waiting for people to disembark should be a punishable offence. 5. Save your car horn for its purpose, not because the car in front of you can't hear you going "tsk" with your mouth. 6. If you want to stand still on the escalator, stand to the left and give way to the right (and no standing side-by-side with a mate). You're forgiven if you're here from overseas, where it's the other way around. 7. Jog in the bike lane at Centennial Park by all means, but prepare to share, don't barge. 8. Attending a yoga class and leaving your phone on vibrate is pretty up there, especially if you let your Instagram stories play through so you can view them while you downward dog, ya dog.  9. If you're going to walk three-abreast, slowly, in the city, at lunchtime or right after work, expect some huffing and puffing behind you and move out of the way for the speed walkers. 10. Don't boast about how you'd never head north over the Bridge, despite the fact you'd willingly spend over an hour in traffic getting to Watsons Bay. 11. Swim fast if you're

Escape to a spa that’s fit for James Bond

Escape to a spa that’s fit for James Bond

James Bond doesn’t get much time for spas, but if he did, he’d need a seriously relaxing one – a spa that’s calming enough to make him forget about saving the world for a few hours. Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne houses such a spa. If you want proof of just how Bond-worthy Bürgenstock Resort is, consider that the resort featured in perhaps the most iconic Bond film ever made – 1964’s ‘Goldfinger’, featuring scenes around the venue’s lavish, outdoor Hollywood pool. If you want to recreate some of that glamour during your visit, rest assured that there’s a poolside bar, in case the urge for a martini arises – shaken, not stirred, naturally. While Bond and co. certainly enjoyed their time at the hotel and spa back then (some of the cast and crew also stayed at the resort while filming), these days things have gotten even more impressive. Take the Alpine Spa infinity pool, for example. Here, you can even bathe in the sky. Or at least that’s what it feels like, thanks to the stunning, high-altitude views and the pool’s edge melting into the cliffside. Those views coupled with toasty, 35-degree water will make the world seem a lot better. Further aquatic wonders can be found in the Bürgenstock Alpine Spa. Here, you’ll be able to soak up the effects of 20 pools, plunge pools and steam rooms, waking yourself up with a refreshingly chilly 10-degree dip, before treating yourself to seriously soothing 60-degree water. Don’t miss the chance to float – seemingly weightless – in a saline

Journey into Paris 2024 at the Olympic Museum’s new exhibition

Journey into Paris 2024 at the Olympic Museum’s new exhibition

Propel yourself into the 2024 Olympic Games, whether or not you managed to get tickets, by visiting an upcoming temporary exhibition at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. Opening on May 25, ‘Paris Olympique™: An Immersive Journey’ lets visitors put themselves in the shoes of former champions and discover how the Games have evolved over the centuries to become the world’s foremost sporting competition. This free and experiential exhibition is a chance to explore all three Parisian editions of the Olympic Games: 1900, 1924 and 2024. Large-scale projections provide a glimpse into past and present identities of the City of Light, or go deeper and step back in time 100 years to the Paris of 1924 through the wonders of augmented reality (AR). Using an AR portal, visitors can enter what was then Colombes Stadium (now Yves-du-Manoir Stadium) and marvel at historical imagery from the Olympic Museum’s archives. The first is a ‘200-metre obstacle’ swimming event which featured in the Paris 1900 Olympics, where competitors climbed over a pole and a row of boats before swimming under another row of boats. Don’t worry, you can test your skills at this one virtually, so no swimming kit is required. The second sport is a little simpler, but not necessarily easier: rope climbing, taken from the Paris 1924 Games. Can you make a medal-wort
