O’Connell’s Pub, the St. Louis institution at 4652 Shaw Avenue in Southwest Garden known for its plump burgers chased with pints of beer, is for sale.
The restaurant announced the sale this weekend on social media.
“The goal is for a group to buy the place that knows and loves the place, and wants the tradition to continue,” the post on Facebook said.
A call to O’Connell’s on Monday went unanswered. St. Louis Magazine first reported the news.
“We expect many interested parties to emerge, and (we) will not do this quickly,” the post continued. “You can do things fast, or you can do things right, but you can rarely do both. We are fine taking our time.”

O’Connell’s originally opened in 1962 in Gaslight Square. According to O’Connell’s own history, longtime owner Jack Parker bought the restaurant in 1965. In 1972, he relocated it to its current home.
Parker died in 2020. His son, John, operates O’Connell’s.
“Thank you all for your 60+ years of patronage,” the post concludes. “The hope is that from the customer perspective, nothing changes. Cheers!”
