Spark Search is a personal project that integrates Lucene with Apache Spark for interactive search, analytics, and machine learning on big data. Experiments showed that indexing large datasets with Lucene directly was faster than using Solr or Elasticsearch on a single node with minimum parallelism, due to their additional overhead. Spark provides an in-memory distributed computing framework that can help address the challenges of indexing and searching big data with Lucene at scale more easily than traditional distributed search technologies. The presentation called for participation to help build out the Spark Search community and project.

Slides from my talk on "Building a Large Scale SEO/SEM Application with Apache Solr" in Lucene/Solr Revolution 2014 where I talk how we handle Indexing/Search of 40 billion records (documents)/month in Apache Solr with 4.6 TB compressed index data. Abstract: We are working on building a SEO/SEM application where an end user search for a "keyword" or a "domain" and gets all the insights about these including Search engine ranking, CPC/CPM, search volume, No. of Ads, competitors details etc. in a couple of seconds. To have this intelligence, we get huge web data from various sources and after intensive processing it is 40 billion records/month in MySQL database with 4.6 TB compressed index data in Apache Solr. Due to large volume, we faced several challenges while improving indexing performance, search latency and scaling the overall system. In this session, I will talk about our several design approaches to import data faster from MySQL, tricks & techniques to improve the indexing performance, Distributed Search, DocValues(life saver), Redis and the overall system architecture.

Centralized log management is implemented using the Elastic Stack including Filebeat, Logstash, Elasticsearch, and Kibana. Filebeat ships logs to Logstash which transforms and indexes the data into Elasticsearch. Logs can then be queried and visualized in Kibana. For large volumes of logs, Kafka may be used as a buffer between the shipper and indexer. Backups are performed using Elasticsearch snapshots to a shared file system or cloud storage. Logs are indexed into time-based indices and a cron job deletes old indices to control storage usage.

Abstract The main objective of the study of this work is to re-use the used foundry sand (produced at foundry industries) as a partial replacement to fine aggregate in different percentages (15 to 50%) that can be adopted in concrete along with normal river sand designed to meet the requirements of concrete of grade M50, using foundry sand with OPC have been considered in the study. Though, the main investigation is to be carried out is on the flexural behavior of reinforced foundry sand concrete beams, to facilitate proportioning of foundry sand concrete, compressive strength studies are also carried out. The tests to be carried out on around (18) singly reinforced beams of size 150 mm x 250 mm & overall length 2000 mm, simply supported over effective span 1800 mm under pure bending. The beams will be provided with adequate shear reinforcement so that the failure of the beams may due to pure flexure. The grade of concrete M50 generally with three foundry sand replacement levels (FSL) in each grade i,e, 15%, 25%, & 35% FSL are considered. Keywords: Flexural, Foundry Sand, Fine Aggregate.

A unifying feature of these tools is support for rich metadata for data sets, jobs, and data policies. In this talk, I will introduce state-of-the-art tools for automating data science and I will show how you can use metadata to help automate common tasks in Data Science. I will also introduce a new architecture for extensible, distributed metadata in Hadoop, called Hops (Hadoop Open Platform-as-a-Service), and show how tinker-friendly metadata (for jobs, files, users, and projects) opens up new ways to build smarter applications.
