Diversity Inclusion Project Showcase
About the Project
SAMHSA Region 1’s Diversity Inclusion Project Showcase (DIPS) is an initiative that aims to connect a more diverse pool of historically marginalized populations to grant funding opportunities by providing the chance to showcase their goals and populations served, to federal and state leaders, as well as philanthropic partners in a round robin-style of innovation.
The DIPS model helps to connect community-based organizations (CBOs) to funders and advocates at all levels, (e.g., federal, philanthropic organizations, stakeholders, and communities).
As a convener, SAMHSA has the ability to assemble CBOs/local nonprofits serving historically marginalized populations with the intention of enhancing the visibility and viability of these entities through the cultivation of partnerships.

- pregnant and parenting women
- reentry and justice
- serious mental illness
- veterans
- workforce development
- youth
- and endless other possibilities

Mission
Create a safe space to cultivate strong partnerships for equitable and healthier communities.
Goal
Provide diverse non-profit organizations an opportunity to present their purpose, community served, and impact to funding entities interested in strengthening behavioral health.
DIPS is a highly innovative initiative to bring greater equity, inclusion, and funding to community-based behavioral health services in New England and beyond! The model is a concrete step toward increasing the access of historically marginalized groups to grants and other sources of financial support for the important work they do every day.
Who Should Attend a DIPS?
Federal Partners: Learn about a new and creative way to assist partners with engaging Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) community-based organizations who might benefit from your programs.
State Leadership: Discover creative ways to engage BIPOC nonprofits, match programs to people, and gain access to a database to ease outreach.
Philanthropy: Explore CBOs that might benefit from your BIPOC investment initiatives.
CBOs: Understand how to showcase your business to potential funding partners, access training and technical assistance, gain exposure, and sign up for a learning community exclusively created to address the multiple levels of cultural responsiveness needed for optimal behavioral health treatment, recovery, and care. Community Members: Come be inspired, bring hope back to your communities, learn where to get mental health support services, and celebrate organizations dedicated to mental health.
Past Events and Presentations
Celebrate innovation in a "Round-Robin-style" presentation at a Diversity and Inclusion Project Showcase (DIPS) event hosted by the New England MHTTC. This event, tentatively scheduled for late-October, will amplify the work of community-based organizations and nonprofits in the New England region supporting mental health and advancing substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery of Asian American and Pacific Islander populations in the region.
Region 1 held the first in person, hybrid DIPS dedicated to Pride and LGBTQ centered CBOs. The New England Prevention Technology Center invited the DIPS model to open at the 54th New England School of Addiction and Prevention Studies, gathering for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. CBOs were able to host tables with resources and giveaways for the in-person audience after presenting in front of 300+ people in a hybrid setting at Worcester State University, giving participants the opportunity to network in real-time and begin the partnering process. Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont CBOs were able to present alongside allies NAMI NH and SAMHSA’s Center of Excellence on LGBTQ+ BH Equity who were able to share their resources to the presenters. We were pleased to have Acting DAS Tom Coderre there to provide closing remarks!
On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, SAMHSA Region 1 will co-host a Diversity Inclusion Project Showcase to raise Deaf Awareness in recovery spaces.

In February of 2021, the HHS Region 1 hosted the first Diversity Inclusion Project Showcase (DIPS) through their Behavioral Health Matters Diversity Inclusion Project Showcase event. Building on the model created by Region 1, the SAMHSA Office of Behavioral Health Equity (OBHE) and NNED National Facilitation Center created a DIPS event that engaged all ten HHS regions. This first event, held in August 2021 brought together NNED community-based organizations (CBOs), state and regional leaders, and philanthropic organizations.
DIPS for Dollars - A two-day webinar series to provide information about service, loan repayment, and fellowship opportunities for HBCU students and Black American practitioners in behavioral health fields.
The inaugural ATTC Region 1 Diversity Inclusion Project Showcase (DIPS): Promoting Recovery-Oriented Organizations, introducing four recovery-oriented community-based organizations that serve historically marginalized communities.
National Network to Eliminate Disparities in Behavioral Health DIPS Showcase - A two-hour event was held to increase the access to and visibility of community-based organizations across the country.
The DIPS Model is supported by the SAMHSA Region 1 Office. Events are further supported by partners in the New England Technology Transfer Center Network.
