Sometimes, we have a problem that needs an outside perspective that allows ourselves to resolve it and move forward. Sometimes, we just need confirmation that what we are thinking is real and justified. Whether it is anxiety, depression, relationship issues, suicidality, or changes in life you are dealing with (like empty nesting, retirement, moving from home, elderly care) are all things we need help to transition into. I can help you navigate them collaboratively, and with your narrative in place.

I am a psychologist who believes that if something isn't working, try something different! I try to create an atmosphere for growth that is warm, kind and challenging. I do my best to steer clear of "psychobabble" and offer tools for change that are easily understood and practical. Whether the issues are emotional, relational or social, you'll find a safe place to do the necessary work to grow.

On the surface things look normal, but underneath life feels like chaos. You feel judged by everyone around you, and the person who judges you most harshly is yourself. Your relationships with other people feel like they are in a constant state of conflict. You act on your emotions without thinking, or you stuff them deep inside where they can’t hurt you. You feel like something is wrong and that things need to change, but the chaos seems so normal you have no idea where to begin.

Whether you are looking for a safe place to engage in self-reflection, an outlet to talk through your thoughts and feelings, an opportunity to develop coping skills, or all of the above, my goal as your therapist is to facilitate that process. As a humanistic and person-centered practitioner, I believe that each individual's natural tendency is toward growth and self-actualization when provided with the right conditions to thrive.

The emotional and mental problems we experience are the result of relational patterns developed early in life. These relational patterns were effective at first, however as life changed, relational patterns often do not, and so they are no longer effective. Relational patterns resist change because they have been used for many years and for the most part are unconscious to us. We feel as if we are making conscious choices about how to relate to others and respond to events, but in reality we are reenacting old ways of relating.

I am a trauma-focused, strength-based perspective therapist. I actively work to provide a space that feels safe to share your innermost experiences. How I do that is by providing a space of unconditional positive regard. You can also expect that we will collaborate on goals for therapy - talk about traumatic experiences, and connect with your inner child in addition to your secure sense of self.

I understand the difficulties of meeting someone new and discussing items that may leave one feeling vulnerable. As a therapist and especially as a person, I highly value our relationship and find this to be essential in the therapy process. I enjoy working with individuals by building trust with me and with this process. I also believe in creating a collaborative relationship in which I respect your needs while balancing the therapeutic interventions that I can provide. I have a long history of working with individuals who struggle with anxiety and depression, and I specialize in working with those who have experienced trauma.

When forming this practice, I was reminded of being a child playing outside. Can you recall playing tag at recess? It seemed inevitable that at some point, someone would get so close to being tagged and yell, "I'm on T." What a fleeting gift of childhood - to just call 'time' when the pressure got too high. I have spent 8 years working with children, teens, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, social skills/relationship difficulties, ADHD, OCD, and more. If you feel that there is something blocking you from experiencing a life you can enjoy, therapy might be right for you.

I believe that as humans we have the ability to be a whole and complete individual. And there are times when this inner strength is overpowered by sudden or ongoing anxiety, unhappiness, and at times even anger. Have you found yourself being stuck in these emotions? Or feeling that no one understands the intensity of the life challenges you're experiencing? I provide a safe environment where we can explore your values and needs together and move towards being the version of self that you aspire to be.

Seeking therapy and being open is a courageous step that requires vulnerability and commitment. I have supported many adolescents in expressinging their struggles and how they can use their resources to achieve goals. With the client's help, I gain a better understanding of their needs and provide tools and recommendations that may not be intuitive, but profoundly helpful. My goal is to work through barriers that create pain and suffering and to find new ways of coping that increase happiness, improve relationships with self and others and overall functioning of life.
