“Children don’t get traumatized because they get hurt. They get traumatized because they’re alone with the hurt.” -Dr. Gabor Mate. I am a therapist specializing in the challenges faced by children and parents. I have over a decade of experience working with children of all ages (and their parents) as their teacher, coach, and counselor. The client-therapist connection is one of trust and empathy and is central to the healing and growing process, forming the container for change. Together we create a collaborative therapeutic relationship where each client has the opportunity to explore their true self, reflect on possibilities, and gain insight that leads to action. Our goal together is to build more authentic connections, with yourself and others, which will allow deeper insight into your experience and define the action needed to move forward.

I have a deep passion for working with adolescent and adult men on issues like anxiety & depression, self-esteem, self-confidence, relationships, boundaries, and meeting one's needs. How I operate as a therapist is by making the therapeutic relationship priority number one. By developing and fostering a meaningful alliance between client and therapist, we can then confidently be collaborative, creative, and insightful about helping you meet your needs in your life.

Loneliness and isolation are difficult to work through on our own. We may feel overwhelmed by depression and anxiety and have difficulty finding meaning. We can feel chased by persistent feelings of dissatisfaction, grief, or loss, and question our self-worth. It may feel increasingly difficult to "hold it together" for others. Even though we need help, we may feel skeptical about whether therapy is for us.

My approach to working with clients is based on building upon strengths, to generate solutions that empower the individual. I support my clients using various therapeutic modalities as they fortify their connection to themselves and others. Being multi-racial, gay, and having been raised in a bicultural household, I have learned that there are many ways to make meaning of the life that you were born into, while informing the life you create for yourself.

Opening up around the vulnerable and intimate details of our lives can be very uncomfortable. There is so much pressure to be “happy”, “better”, or “perfect”, while receiving messaging that being anything else is unacceptable. We are very adaptive yet often struggle to effectively get our needs met, so may engage in avoidance behaviors and withhold or internalize our feelings to try to prevent things from getting worse. You want to feel more like your true self and get more satisfaction out of your relationships. You need an unconditionally supportive, non-judgmental, creative, and humorous therapist who accepts you however you are.

I seek to create a warm, down-to-earth, and accepting experience for you to explore the hard-ass things in life. Many of us, myself included, were rarely taught how to connect with and understand our emotions, and so when we experience difficult feelings like sadness, disappointment, shame, fear, grief, and pain, we don’t know how to engage them in a helpful way. But that can change. We will work together to promote positive change and restore direction, meaning, and resilience during these difficult times. We will be teammates in our work together.

I work with guys in hi-tech, mostly software engineers and managers, who struggle with some sort of anxiety &/or depression, often brought on by things like workplace stress, relationship problems, or big life transitions (like having a baby). My typical client leads an engaged life of achievement and focus, and he usually feels on top of things. But then life has come along and hit him with something his well-developed intellect can't quite handle. The result is that he feels stalled and filled with self-doubt - something he is unaccustomed to and often deeply uncomfortable with.

I work with individuals and with non-traditional relationships including polyamory, ethical non-monogamy and I have over 20 years of experience serving the QUILTBAG (queer or questioning, undecided, intersex, lesbian, trans, bisexual, asexual or allied, gay or gender diverse). I don't name issues and disorders because labels are important to the people who pay the bills. Help, Support, and Knowledge from a person willing to stand with you when life is becoming hard and solutions aren't easy to see are more important then any diagnostic name or code for what ails you.

Have you been thinking that you're not enough? At some point, you stopped believing in yourself and your mind filled in the gaps with negative thoughts. You want to feel happier, less anxious and/or depressed but don't know how. Instead, you feel misunderstood and alone. Not knowing where to turn to for answers and comfort. All the while, your mind is hard at working telling you that you're the problem. That something is wrong with you or your relationship/friends/family. Our mind can be our worst enemy or our best friend, depending on how we frame situations.
