Are you Neurodivergent or wonder if you might be? Do your challenges with focus make getting treatment tricky? You are not alone. Many people I work with have struggled for years to get treatment - or even a diagnosis. I offer Neurodivergent affirming therapy (ADHD, AuDHD) and group therapy. Are you group curious? If yes, I look forward to connecting with you. I currently offer weekly support groups to adults in California. I also offer climate anxiety support - individual and group. Groups meet both online and in person and serve people in California.

It’s very possible that you’re not lazy or unmotivated but instead dealing with symptoms of undiagnosed ADHD.
It’s 8 pm the night before your work project is due, and the pressure is on. Your boss assigned this three weeks ago, and you kept telling yourself you had more time. Now, there are less than 12 hours to hand it in, and you haven’t even begun. But, rather than finally starting, you look for anything else to do. “The oven could use a deep clean,” you decide to yourself. You watch the clock tick, and your stress builds until you have no choice but to start, but by then, it’s too late to do it right. So you hand in the work late again, rushed and full of errors. You hate letting yourself and others down but don’t know another way.

Hello, my name is Ellen Suski, I go by Elly. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I have been working in the mental health field for almost 9 years and providing therapy for about 5 years. I have experience working with individuals with depression, anxiety, and ADHD as well as concerns around interpersonal relationships and stress management (related to work, school, family, and friends). My approach to therapy includes allowing the client to guide the direction of each session. I choose this approach as I do not like my clients to feel forced to speak on a topic or area in their life that they aren’t comfortable with yet.

Many clients come to see me because they are experiencing relationship, family, or dating issues (self-esteem; complex trauma; narcissistic & emotional abuse), they are living with chronic illness (diabetes; autoimmune disorders; medical trauma), or they are strengthening their neurodivergent identity and coping skills (ADHD; Autism; AuDHD). Others are struggling with career issues, particularly if they are creative professionals or work in highly technical fields (creative blocks, imposter syndrome, confidence). Together we'll work to better understand and navigate the systems and patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

I work with individuals and couples at all developmental stages, partnering with you to navigate the uncertainties of life transitions, relationship difficulties, and barriers that may be keeping you stuck. Most of us want to move in the direction of a meaningful, authentic life that reflects our values, but for various reasons the path becomes obscured. There are many important reasons why people come to therapy. For some, they may want to learn to manage their anxiety and depression, improve their relationships and set boundaries with others, and/or process painful experiences from their past. For others, they may want to address their perfectionism and unrealistic expectations, learn strategies to manage their ADHD, and/or cope with life or career transitions.

I work in tandem with psychotherapy and neurofeedback to recover your true resilience. I can work in either modality alone, however the two together have a synergistic effect, producing quicker results. Neurofeedback assists in restoring optimal brain health, while psychotherapy can help you become aware of your thinking patterns, and assist you in creating better emotional balance. You can feel awake and deeply connected to the world and others around you again. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, ADD, PTSD or other traumas, I can help free you from old blockages and restore your original, true nature.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
