I do therapy in English and Spanish and work with different types of issues: relationships, self esteem, anxiety management or career development.
A therapeutic space can give us the understanding and confidence we need to make positive changes in our life. Expressing unspoken thoughts and feelings is an opportunity to heal, walk light and recover a feeling of direction. It gives us perspective and open our minds to explore healthier ways of relating to ourselves. My name is Alvaro, I'm a trauma informed Psychologist with more than 10 years of experience. I practice in Thanet (Margate and Ramsgate) and London.

As a coach, I help individuals gain new perspectives in areas such as career development and career progression.
My emphasis as a psychotherapist and coach is focused on helping build confidence and direction whilst empowering individuals to develop in areas they feel they need toward a more fulfilling and satisfying future. I create an environment where clients feel heard, valued, and understood and able to explore issues, whether related to past or present life experiences, to deepen their understanding of those experiences. This aims to facilitate a greater sense of choice and allow them to build better connections in relationships with others and with themselves.

Low confidence, imposter syndrome or self-sabotage, for example, can manifest in behaviours such as workaholism and burnout or conversely procrastination and under-achievement. Some transitions seem too much to bear. Like changing a job that doesn't fulfil us anymore, or leaving a relationship that has run its course. Making the decision can seem impossible. We make lists, examine the risks, and weigh the pros and cons. But we can end up going around in circles, justifying any or all options. This can be so frustrating and mentally exhausting. Even once we've decided, uncomfortable or painful feelings may arise. We doubt our wisdom, or grieve what we’ve lost. We feel anger at having to go through this. All this can leave us feeling lost and disorientated, like walking through fog.

Whether you're experiencing a significant life change, relationship difficulties, a career transition, a painful loss, or simply a sense that there is more to life than you've known, you are welcome here. I frequently work with kind, sensitive, and ambitious individuals who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, and burnout. I support those undergoing heartbreak, rejection, or loss and wish to rebuild their sense of self after disturbing experiences. I also work with those who lack purpose in their current careers and want to reorient towards something more meaningful yet feel blocked in approaching such an enormous change.

Improving your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, is all an inside job.
What a world we live in, hey? So much pain. So much drama, and heartache. Yet, also so much beauty, love, and understanding. There's nothing to do except be here now and show up fully, living as best as we can. This is where therapy begins. It may be hard work to change your habits, or to stop your thoughts spiralling. However you may find stillness, presence and recovery. No matter what adversity you've been through, I believe that you can grow from it and gain resilience.

I know how daunting first sessions can be so it's my job to help you feel as comfortable as possible. The first session is an opportunity for us to find out a little about each other and for you to decide if I am the right therapist for you. We will discuss how things are for you at the moment, what's brought you to therapy and the things you'd like to work on.I offer a supportive, safe and confidential relationship. I have 10 years of experience as a psychotherapist, working initially in the NHS and for the last 8 years I've run a busy private practice in Central London.

I have been lucky enough in my career to date to work with some incredibly inspiring and brave individuals who have been at a crossroads in their life. Sometimes making change felt frightening or impossible due to past beliefs, stuck patterns of behaviour or limiting thought processes. Others were struggling to move on after devastation, illness, loss or identity crisis. I believe it is a privilege to be able to guide those in need at these times due to the courage and vulnerability they show. They are asking from the heart for a new beginning - to break from the past, not feel scared by the future and live truly in the present.

Career Guidance Counsellors

How do I know if I need career counselling?

Determining whether a career counsellor is needed involves assessing one's current career and identifying what changes can be made to improve one's overall quality of life. In particular, feelings of loss of motivation, fatigue, anxiety, depression, procrastination, or ongoing levels of high stress can all be indicative of a need for career-related counselling. In addition, individuals changing jobs may want the decision-making support or self-reflection opportunities provided by a career counsellor.

Who can benefit from career counselling?

Anyone can benefit from the self-reflection, skill development, and stress management techniques that career counselling can provide. However, individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out with their current job and individuals considering a major career change may particularly benefit from career counselling to improve their wellbeing. Additionally, individuals who are facing issues in their current job, such as coworker relationship challenges or not meeting performance goals, may benefit from the perspective that a career counsellor can provide. College-age or young professionals may also uniquely benefit from career counselling as they make key decisions surrounding education and job training that will impact their career trajectory.

How long does career counselling typically last?

The length of career counselling can vary greatly depending on the needs of the individual and what type of support they are seeking Career coaching or advising services—which serve clients in a specific, goal-oriented capacity—often last for a shorter duration and are sometimes only a single session or a few sessions in length. In contrast, career counselling as part of a more integrative therapeutic relationship with a counsellor may last longer, particularly if the issues faced by the client are longstanding and/or more complex in nature; in such cases, individuals may expect therapy to last multiple months or longer.

How to prepare for career counselling?

Clients can prepare for career counselling sessions by outlining the specific topics they would like to address with the counsellor, such as current job challenges or hopes for the future of their career. Compiling one's thoughts on such topics often requires reflection on one's career and future goals, which in itself can be beneficial for session preparation. Clients may also want to put together a list of questions they would like to ask the counsellor, particularly if the career counsellor they are seeing has particular expertise in a given career area. Conducting research into potential future jobs, training opportunities, or support resources in one's area may also help clients prepare for career counselling by providing them with a background of what resources are available in their area.
