After the iPad, Apple Might Bring AI to the Vision Pro

Apple unveiled its AI product, Apple Intelligence, earlier this month. At the announcement event, Apple only promised to bring the technology to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Now, it sounds like Apple might be looking to bring the tech to the Vision Pro as well. 

In his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple is actively working on bringing AI features to its headset; however, those features will not be available this year.

Gurman notes that the headset has 16GB of memory, which will be plenty to run AI. "The features, including notification prioritization, writing tools, an OpenAI chatbot, and the new Siri, make sense for the headset — especially if Apple continues to position the Vision Pro as a device for getting work done and handling computer tasks," he says.

Gurman notes that adding AI to the device also likely won't be a heavy lift, given that the headset runs on a variant of the existing iPadOS software. The largest challenge will likely be getting it to look right in the mixed-reality environment.

Apple recently paused its development of the next generation of Vision Pro to work on a new, less expensive version of the headset, according to reports. While the Vision Pro currently costs $3,500, the less expensive version will sell for closer to $1,500, putting it more within reach for many consumers and allowing it to compete with other products such as the Meta Quest.
