Is Maeve cool or old fashioned?

What do you think of the name Maeve?

DH and I are really struggling for a name for DD2. This is the only one where we both went that's nice.

I'm just worried it's a bit old fashioned?

I like it. OH doesn't. It doesn't feed old fashioned to me like Maude or Edna do iyswim.

I would say it's cool in England, but slightly on the old fashioned side in Ireland.

Massive resurgence of it in Ireland at the minute. Not my favourite name tbh, but I’m not a huge fan of Irish names (I’m Irish).

I think it's cool. It reminds me of Thandie Newton's character in Westworld and she's a badass!

Interesting that you say it sounds old fashioned in Ireland. DH has Irish heritage and our surname is Irish. Although we live in the UK.

It's the main character's name in Sex Education and she is pretty cool, so I'm sure it's on the up

Growing in popularity where we are (London/Home Counties). Sadly it’s rather tainted for me as I know one in her mid 20s who is very unpleasant.

It’s a lovely name - definitely making a comeback in Ireland and I predict in the UK it’ll grow in popularity, too.

Maeve/Meav/Meabh is a lovely name! It's the name of one of the two lead characters (strong, brave girls) in the amazing new, Golden Globe nominee film Wolfwalkers (tv.apple.com/us/movie/wolfwalkers/umc.cmc.amuoq00hqelfi98j0gvg641x).

Also the name of my favourite singer (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9av_N%C3%AD_Mhaolchatha). Whenever I hear the name I think of her lovely ethereal voice.

Not my taste but that's not because it sounds dated. I know of one who is 6. Seems to be becoming more popular.

I just think it’s ugly - reminds me of the word mauve.

But it feels retro revival like Ruby etc so wouldn’t worry about it sounding old fashioned.

I'm Irish and I find it a bit dated in a Sinéad/Siobhán way. But it seems to be gaining popularity elsewhere.

It is both.

However the spelling "Maeve" is leaning towards old fashioned. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's like Sheila for Síle or Moira for Máire.
