Nuby Natural Touch

Nuby’s Natural Touch not only has a wordy title to live up to, but claims to encourage milk let down and mimic your baby's feeding action by drawing milk from the breast, as opposed to squeezing the nipple. The silicone cup that fits to your breast has a three-phased action (massage, draw and collect) which is supposed to encourage milk flow.

So do Nuby's special silicone cups really do the business or will our First Look tester be left with an engorged sense of disappointment? Read on to find out…

What are the stand-out features of the Nuby Natural Touch?

Our First Look tester had no issues expressing with the pump. There was no nipple pinching (ouch), soreness, or plastic friction, and the silicone cushioning was very comfortable.

The pump is easy to use – there are no small parts to fiddle around with, which is brilliant, as it's always a bit daunting putting little pieces of your breast pump in the dishwasher or trying to hand wash every nook and cranny of a tiny valve. Our tester found the assembly simple and the instruction manual easy to speed read.

The pump was quieter to use than others our tester had tried. This meant that she was able to pump with an older child in the room without them being too distracted from their activity. “Pumping is difficult enough without having a toddler trying to ‘help’.”

Getting started with the Nuby Natural Touch Ultimate Digital Breast Pump

Any part that interacts with milk must be washed and sterilised before the first use, which is easy enough as it's all dishwasher friendly and works with most sterilisers. The only drawback of this is if you wash and sterilise the wrong part (the piping and a plastic attachment that clips onto the pump) then you can break it before you’ve even plugged in. So perhaps have a coffee before you start because…sleep deprivation.

The pump battery does not come charged. As a result the first time you use it, you are attached to the pump, the pump is attached to the digital control panel and the control panel is attached to the wall socket. Our tester said it was, “a little bit like you are an electric car being charged.” If only there was a rechargable battery for humans, eh?

Our tester was a bit disappointed that there were not more bottles and teats included in the pack. There is an option to add a second pump to the Nuby Natural Touch, but it'll bump up the price by £14.99. It's not a deal breaker but it's useful to know before you buy.

The verdict (for now)

Nuby's Natural Touch pump retails at a whopping £130, which seems like a lot, but if you're paying for comfort and efficient milk extraction, and you're planning to express frequently, it might be worth it.
