Phillies announce roster moves

The Phillies announced the following roster moves:

  • Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber was reinstated from the 10-day injured list yesterday
  • Outfielder David Dahl was designated for assignment yesterday
  • First baseman Bryce Harper was reinstated from the 10-day injured list today
  • Infielder Kody Clemens was optioned to triple-A Lehigh Valley today

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcements.

Schwarber, 31, has posted a slash line of .250/.373/.447 (.820 OPS) this season in 79 games (367 plate appearances). In his last 17 games before being placed on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain on June 28, he produced an OPS of 1.096 with four doubles, six home runs, 13 RBI and 13 walks. Schwarber also leads the National League in walk rate (16.1%) and walks (59).

Originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round (4th overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft, Schwarber signed with the Phillies as a free agent on March 20, 2022.

Harper, 31, has slashed .303/.399/.582 (.981 OPS) in 76 games this season, going 87-for-287 with 20 doubles, 20 home runs, 58 RBI, four stolen bases and 47 walks in 336 plate appearances. Among qualified NL hitters, his slugging percentage, wRC+ (169) and OPS+ (175) rank second and his batting average, on-base percentage, and walk rate (14.0%) rank fifth. Harper was named NL Player of the Month for June and May, becoming only the 19th player in MLB history to win consecutive Player of the Month awards and was the NL’s leading vote-getter for the 2024 All-Star Game.

Originally selected by the Washington Nationals in the first round (1st overall) of the 2010 MLB Draft, Harper signed with the Phillies as a free agent on March 2, 2019.

Clemens, 28, has slashed .242/.277/.500 in 24 games (65 plate appearances) for the Phillies this season. Originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft, Clemens was acquired by the Phillies in a trade with the Tigers on Jan. 7, 2023.

Dahl, 30, played in 19 games for the Phillies this year, slashing .207/.242/.397 in 62 plate appearances. Originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the first round (10th overall) of the 2012 MLB Draft, Dahl was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on Feb. 19, 2024.
