Joey Barton has been on the end of a social media backlash after posting a series of misogynistic tweets about women in football.
The former Manchester City midfielder, who was sacked as manager of Bristol Rovers in October, claimed that "women shouldn't be talking with any kind of authority in the men's game" and that he "cannot take a thing they say serious in the men's arena".
Barton's social media rant came after six Premier League games were shown live on Amazon Prime Video, who had a number of women involved in their broadcasts. In his first post, Barton wrote: "Women shouldn't be talking with any kind of authority in the men's game.
"Come on. Let's be serious. It's a completely different game. If you don't accept that. We will always see things differently. The women's game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men's arena. #namaste"
He continued: "Any man who sits and engages with them in this regard has sold out. The game is about levels. Most men's opinion has little value. Never mind anyone else…
"Any man who listens to Women commentary or co-comms needs their heads testing…#sticktoyourowngame".

Barton also responded to a fan who claimed he was "finished in football and he knows it", writing: "Been in football since I've left school pal. I'll decide what I do in the game. It actually bores me. Full of s***bags. Maggots. Liars. People pleasers. Luckily, I've played at a level to earn enough to say and do what the f*** I want."
Back in October, Barton backed his former manager Kevin Keegan, claiming he was "bang on" after saying he does not "like to listen to ladies talking about the England men's team". Barton's controversial comments come a week after he was also accused of trivialising the racist murder of Anthony Walker by his brother and cousin.
Barton's brother Michael was jailed for life alongside his cousin Paul Taylor for killing Walker with an ice axe in 2005 in what the judge called a "racist attack of a type poisonous to any civilised society". However, Barton referred to it as a mere "scrap" in an appearance on a podcast.
The Anthony Walker Foundation responded to Barton's comments, calling them "factually incorrect" and stating that they "seem to trivialise the incident that led to such an outcome and heap further pain and suffering upon the family and friends of Anthony."
