Mason Greenwood has been spotted training with ex- Manchester United teammate Shola Shoretire as club chiefs agonise over his future.

The striker is now back in the UK after his loan spell with Spanish side Getafe. A number of clubs have been linked with signing him but a move has yet to materialise.

Greenwood, 22, saw charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February last year.

He has been keeping his fitness up alongside fellow academy graduate Shoretire. The pair were pictured training on a football pitch in Manchester.

Greenwood had a pair of orange boots with him, while he sported a Jamaica national team shirt. Shoretire was in a tracksuit.

The latter, 20, departed United this summer at the end of his contract. He was previously the Red Devils’ youngest-ever player in Europe but is now without a club.

New United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had hinted a decision would be made soon on Greenwood. Speaking earlier this year, he said: “We will make a decision, correct. All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that. Is he the right type of footballer, are we happy with if is he a good person or not?"

"He's a Manchester United footballer, so we are in charge of football. So the answer is 'Yeah, we have to make decisions. It's quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that's been made.

"He's on loan obviously, but he's not the only one. We've got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on so we will do that. The process will be: understand the facts not the hype.

"Then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically is he a good guy or not? Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?"

Greenwood has just a year remaining on his Old Trafford contract. He has already expressed his desire for his future to be decided within the next week.

Marseille, Lazio and Getafe are among the clubs to have been strongly linked with him. The latter’s president Angel Torres previously expressed his desire to sign the striker permanently.

Speaking with Radio Marca, he said: "If it depends on the boy and the parents, he will continue another year. Manchester, the news we have from last week, the thing is that if there is a good offer they would like to sell. Because he is not going to return there.

"So we are going to have to wait a month and a half or two months, until the end of June. But it depends on him and the family. They are very comfortable and very happy with the fans.

"He had not played for 16 months when he arrived and we have recovered him, he has scored eight goals in the League and two in the Cup and he has given a great performance."
