England will set up camp at a secluded, luxury 94-room resort in central Germany as Gareth Southgate’s team look to end the long wait for glory.

The 26-man squad will take over the Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land, which crucially features a golf course on site, for the duration of their stay at the tournament.

They will travel to Gelsenkirchen, Cologne and Frankfurt for their group stage games but in between will train and stay at the resort, which has two full-sized pitches on its grounds.

It also has two swimming pools, a sauna and a games room in addition to a golf course on site - ensuring the players do not become bored during their downtime. Stars including captain Harry Kane is among the keen golfers in the squad.

The hotel may boast that it serves up the finest cuisine from Michelin chefs at restaurants Augusta and Masters but the FA are bringing in their own chefs to ensure the squad receive optimum nutrition throughout. Players will be given their own in-room electronic devices where they can make requests to hotel staff.

Their stay is costing the FA an estimated £800,000 but its location is set to minimise distractions for players. It typically costs about £300 per night for a room at the hotel.

And the stars’ wives and girlfriends are expected to check in at hotels more than 20 miles away with the FA keen to avoid the media circus of their last tournament in Germany - when famous other halves including Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole dominated the headlines during the 2006 World Cup.

England's preparations ramp up this week with friendlies against Bosnia Herzegovina, on Monday at St James' Park, and Iceland, at Wembley on Friday, with Southgate set to trim his initial 33-man squad down to 26.
