Nigel Farage kicked up a devil of a stink when he went on stage to pick up a gong at the TRIC Awards.

The cast of Coronation Street - awarded Best Soap - used their platform to have a go at Reform UK leader Nigel after he was booed when he went to collect his Best News Presenter award.

Actor David Neilson, who plays Roy Cropper, remarked: "There seems to be a whiff of sulphur up here - I think it must be Nigel". He was referring to the smell of fire and brimstone traditionally associated with hell.

Then Maureen Lipman, who won Best Soap Actor, grabbed the mic to say: "See you in Rwanda, Nigel!" Her comment related to the small boats policy ahead of next week's UK election.

Former I'm A Celeb contestant Nigel had four guards protecting him at the bash after being pelted with rocks and drinks in recent weeks. When asked if he'd had to beef up his security following the attacks, he said: "Yes. Some [people] think violence is justified so I have to be careful."

Meanwhile, former BBC Radio 2 DJ Ken Bruce received a hat trick of awards at the event, at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. The presenter, who is now at Baeur's Greatest Hits Radio, said it was "a real privilege" to accept the gongs. The TRIC Awards - now in their 55th year - celebrate British TV and radio.
