After winning T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma pens emotional post for ‘work wife’ Rahul Dravid

It’s been a week since India won the 2024 T20 World Cup but the celebrations are still on.

While the fans are delighted with Team India’s triumph at the marquee event, a sense of sadness also exists because two of our modern-day greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli won’t be donning the national jersey in the shortest format of the game.

More than Rohit and Kohli’s T20I retirement, fans are sad about Rahul Dravid’s departure, whose extended tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team ended right after the tournament.

Some senior players had tried to convince Dravid to continue but his mind was already made that the T20 World Cup 2024 would be his last assignment with the Indian team.

The good thing is that Dravid, who could never lay his hands on a World Cup trophy as a player, is leaving on a high with a T20 World Cup trophy. He couldn’t have asked for a better farewell.

Since becoming Team India’s head coach after India’s shocking group-stage exit from the 2021 T20 World Cup, Dravid strived to do what no one had done since 2013, win an ICC trophy.

Along with skipper Rohit Sharma, he created an excellent environment inside the dressing room, giving players the freedom to express themselves – both on the field and in the locker room.

Like every Indian cricket fan, Rohit Sharma is also grateful to Dravid for serving the nation in the last two years. Days after lifting the T20 World Cup trophy in Barbados, Rohit penned an emotional note for his favourite “Rahul bhai”.

“Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this but I’m not sure I ever will so here’s my attempt,” read Rohit’s post.

“Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely.

Highlighting Dravid’s biggest quality, Rohit mentioned that despite being a legendary figure, he left all his accomplishments as a player at the door and made everyone comfortable.

“You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you.

The Indian cricketers are always on the run, jumping from one flight to another throughout the year. This hectic schedule means they spend more time with their teammates than their families.

The 37-year-old revealed that his wife had started referring to Dravid as his “work wife” because of the long hours they spent together discussing various things.

“That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too,” he added.

“This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach, and my friend,” he concluded.

Written from the bottom of his heart, Rohit Sharma’s heartfelt post garnered over two million likes in just an hour.
