Article In Qatari Daily Al-Watan: 'The U.S. Will Come Back With The Bodies Of Its Slain And Its Hostages, Humiliated And Defeated'

May 21, 2024

On May 19, 2024 the Qatari daily Al-Watan published an article that called on Hamas, Hizbullah, the Houthis and the Iran-backed militias in Iraq to target the U.S. so that it "comes back with the bodies of its slain and its hostages, humiliated and defeated." The author of the article, Palestinian journalist Samir Al-Barghouti who writes a column in the daily, added that the U.S. is leading the current war in Gaza, and that the resistance is stronger than all the armies of the world.

The following are excerpts from the article:[1]

"Oh sons of Gaza, the [West] Bank, the Dahia [Hizbullah's stronghold in Beirut], Baghdad and Sanaa, strike out and be blessed.

"This is the war that the U.S. and some of its deceiving helpers want. This is the war that [America's] protégé [Israel] has been unable to win because the people of Gaza have learned from experience that resistance is stronger than all the armies of the world and that the U.S. sows destruction but does not win. It was defeated in Vietnam, Cuba, Somalia and Afghanistan and it will come back with the bodies of its slain and its hostages, humiliated and defeated by your painful blows.

"Yes, this is a war that the U.S. is leading, as the Palestinian Academics Association pointed out in a statement it issued, [which called it] 'the barbaric and deceptive war against the Palestinians, led by the U.S.'

"All the evidence and indications prove that the U.S. is the main engine supporting this war and the barbaric acts of massacre against Gaza and the Palestinian people, and that all of its calls and efforts to stop the war against the Palestinians are false and [just meant to] mislead public opinion in the U.S. and the world. U.S. President [Joe] Biden says that he is against a military attack on the civilians in Rafah, but at the same time he asks the U.S. Congress [to approve] $26 billion in financial and military aid [for Israel]. He claims that he will stop providing the occupying entity with precise high-payload munitions, [yet] enables his Democratic Party to oppose this and take a decision that forces his government to send the munitions and bombs to the occupying entity…

"The wide-ranging battles waged by the Zionist army in Gaza prove that the brave Palestinian resistance is still in control on the ground in Gaza, and it has inflicted on the Zionist enemy heavy losses in lives and equipment. [Just] in the last ten days, the enemy sustained about 300 slain and wounded, and 100 military vehicles were destroyed or damaged. This prompted Israeli Defense Minister [Yoav] Gallant to demand in a TV [interview] that his government formulate a political plan for the [future] governance of Gaza. [Gallant] has thus proven that he and the Zionist army are now convinced that they cannot defeat the Palestinian resistance, which has been holding its position for 224 days in the face of the barbaric Zionist genocidal war, [a war] that is supported militarily and financially by the U.S. and several European countries. Hence, they want to escape the quagmire of the war of attrition in Gaza by means of a political solution.

Therefore, sons of Gaza, teach them that whoever is wrought of the soil of the homeland seeks to die in order to rise to Heaven as a martyr out of a love for the homeland."
