Hydrated SBA-15 has been employed as a porous support containing water clusters capable of hydrolyzing a Ti(III) amidinate precursor to produce a nanocomposite TiO2/SBA-15 material. This nanocomposite, compared to others, exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity for the abatement of 400 ppb NO under UV-A exposure. The mechanical mixing of SBA-15 with commercial TiO2 P-25 results in the synergistic effect of its catalytic performance; however, this is further enhanced by 40% when nanosized TiO2 from Ti(III) amidinate is chemically deposited on hydrated SBA-15.
