Cover Story (view full-size image): This study aimed to explore the degree of atrophy of the entorhinal area (ERICA) and the severity of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) symptoms, analyzing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the entorhinal cortex, parahippocampal gyrus and peri entorhinal cortex and the cerebellar tentorium and a neuropsychological and psychophysical assessment. The main results highlighted that in multidomain amnesic MCI with hyposmic symptomatology, ERICA scores were associated with the severity of anxiety symptomatology. One possible hypothesis to explain this observation is that anxiety may contribute to neurodegenerative processes by inducing chronic stress and inflammation. View this paper
