The local elections 2024 have taken place with voters in Cannock Chase having gone to the polls.

All 36 Cannock Chase District Council seats were up for grabs in the wards including Brereton and Ravenhill, Cannock East, Cannock North, Cannock South, Cannock West, Etching Hill and The Heath, Hagley, Hawks Green, Heath Hayes East and Wimblebury, Hednesford Green Heath, Hednesford North, Hednesford South, Norton Canes, Rawnsley and Western Springs.

Ahead of the election Cannock Chase District Council was controlled by a Labour and Green coalition - with 23 seats in the administration out of 41.

Cannock Chase District Council, one of nine in West Staffordshire, provides the majority of local government services in Cannock Chase. The next Staffordshire County Council election will take place in May 2025.

More than 2,500 council seats were up for grabs across 107 local authorities in England. Mayoral elections took place in East Midland, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, North East, South Yorkshire, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, York and North Yorkshire, London and Salford.

There were also police and crime commissioner elections across England and Wales - but not in Greater Manchester, London, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

May's local elections are the last big electoral test for all the political parties before the general election, which is expected to take place later this year.

Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday, May 2, with the count taking place on Friday.
