Police and paramedics were scrambled to an area in Rivington over a report of 'concern for the welfare' of a man. Emergency services were called to the scene near Roynton Road earlier this evening. The air ambulance landed nearby.

A man was taken to hospital in an air ambulance from the scene between Lancashire and Greater Manchester, police said. Further details about the incident have not yet been confirmed and the man’s condition is unknown at this stage.

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News that the air ambulance landed in a field and a man was assisted by medical staff. He said there was a large police presence in attendance following the incident.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “Police were called to a concern for welfare report between Lancashire and Greater Manchester. Police resources and other blue light services attended and located a male who was taken to hospital in an air ambulance.”
