Marks and Spencer is being flooded with praise from shoppers over a lightweight summer jacket that's been hailed 'perfect' for unpredictable summer weather. One minute it's raining, the next minute it's beaming with sun, so it can be difficult to work out whether or not to wear a coat or jacket at the moment.
As such, many of us are being caught out by heavy downpours, or risk overheating when the sun does decide to peep its head through the clouds. But Marks and Spencer has the solution to all of these problems, in the form of its M&S Collection Lightweight Rain Jacket.
As the name suggests, the £49.50 jacket is lightweight enough to wear on warmer days, but will protect you from the rain when the heavens open. It is cut in a regular fit, with a cosy funnel neck and drawstring hood, which can be detached when needed, to protect you from the elements.
The Lightweight Rain Jacket has a concealed popper and zip fastening to keep the rain out, while an adjustable waist allows you to customise the shape. Its two patch pockets and a secure internal pocket provide space for your essentials.
The jacket is made with Marks and Spencer's water-repellent Stormwear technology to protect you from showers. It has a mesh lining for breathability.
The Lightweight Rain Jacket is proving popular with shoppers, and has racked up hundreds of glowing five-star reviews. M&S fans have been impressed by how lightweight it is, and are particularly enamoured with the detachable hood, which can prove particularly handy in the summer.
One impressed Marks and Spencer customer said of the Lightweight Rain Jacket: "Have been looking for a while for a jacket that is lightweight and yet water proof. This fits the brief. The colour is really cheerful and yet not garish. Excellent quality and looks good."
A second said: "Very useful easy to wear jacket. Good length and very lightweight also surprisingly waterproof."
"Great jacket I keep this in the car just in case the weather changes," penned a third.
A fourth added: "Delighted with this jacket, I love the styling, it’s lightweight, waterproof & windproof - perfect for summer."
"At last! I’ve found a light summer jacket that has a removable hood! Folded and tucked into pocket, it’s there should you need it. Looks good over jeans or a dress and perfect for our unreliable weather," said somebody else.
But another moaned about the sizing, writing: "Purchased in Cranberry - it was an impulse buy as I loved colour although it is proving to be a useful lightweight summer rain jacket. Had to return size10 as it was ridiculously large and settled on size 8 which is still a very generous size. My only complaint (and what put me off going smaller) is that the waist drawstring could be a bit lower!!"
Another M&S customer counteracted, saying: "Lovely jacket, it fits a bit big and the cuffs aren't elasticated. Good size pockets which close securely - great if you don't want to take a bag! Kept me dry in a heavy downpour."
Elsewhere, Fat Face's Lightweight Parka is a popular choice, at £59. Also worth considering is the White Company's Juniper Cotton Jacket, which is a more dressy option, but perhaps isn't quite as waterproof.
