In the final of session of the “Demystifying the World of Valuations” series, a panel moderated by Julia Stevenson consisting of Carisa Stanley Beatty, Stephanie Wiggins, Lynda Gallagher, and Larry Hentz broke down the valuation, appraisal, and lending processes for commercial real estate assets. The panel highlighted how implicit and direct biases can affect the valuation process and provided guidance on how stakeholders can approach new projects and present project packages to lenders to maneuver around equity- and perception-based roadblocks. The discussion was followed by a lively Q&A session and a series-end networking celebration overlooking the White House. ULI Washington would like to thank our panelists for their exceptional thought leadership, CREW DC and AAREP DC for being dedicated partners in this series, King & Spalding for providing the venue, and the ULI Washington Women’s Leadership Initiative Steering Committee for offering their support and collaboration. Additional applause to longtime ULI Washington member Elizabeth Pye and to Julia Stevenson for bringing this event series to fruition. By organizing panel discussions, asking thoughtful questions, and exploring the themes of valuation and equity, they have encouraged professionals in our region to be inquisitive and thoughtful when approaching the valuation process and appraisal reports.
