Updates

  • Many managed care organizations (MCOs) are deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their existing processes. In some cases, politicians and policyholders seem to believe that MCOs are not abiding by current rules and regulations when using this new technology in some of their business processes and procedures, such as claims processing. As a result, politicians have held hearings and made written inquiries of certain MCOs, and policyholders have filed suit against some MCOs claiming that AI is causing noncompliant claims processing. In-by improving transparency around the use of AI and preparing now for potential government inquiries and litigation in the future. On Thursday, March 6 the team of Wendell Bartnick, Michelle Lyu Cheng, and Vanessa Perumal presented a webinar advising how in-house counsel can take steps to mitigate these risks and build (or re-build) trust. If you would like to watch a recording* of the webinar, please reach out to mjilek@reedsmith.com. #ManagedCare #AI #MCO *𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘊𝘓𝘌 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯-𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘢, 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘵, 𝘐𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘪𝘴, 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘑𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘺, 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬, 𝘗𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘴𝘺𝘭𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘢, 𝘛𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘝𝘪𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘢.

  • ERISA’s requirements for notifying members of appeal procedures and responding to appeals are intricate, confusing and can vary across federal circuits. On Thursday, July 11 Rebecca Hanson and Thomas Hardy are hosting a webinar to aide in-house counsel for claim administrators in understanding the rules, knowing the traps for the unwary, and being equipped to advise their internal clients on how to structure and implement appeal procedures that will withstand legal challenges. If you would like to register for this webinar or receive a recording, please reach out to mjilek@reedsmith.com. #ERISA #ManagedCare #ClaimsAdministrators
