I got to be part of a really special panel last week at the Education Writers Association about including youth voices when journalists write stories about youth mental health. It was fantastic to team up with the awesome Bree Campbell, James Kim and Briget Ganske from the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs (SRL) who talked about their youth-led podcast On Our Minds, and The Jed Foundation (JED) Student Voice in Mental Health Award winner Areli Rosales. (And to spend time with Justin Barbo from JED!)

Last week, I had the privilege of serving as a mentor for the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs (SRL) Summer Academy, an intensive week-long video journalism fellowship for high school students. I supported a team of students in producing this story about the National Cathedral. I’m so immensely proud of these kids and this story! They were a little nervous about climbing the scaffolding (we were eye level with the top of the Washington Monument!), but it was worth it to get these shots.

PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs (SRL) held their Summer Academy Screening at WETA last night! What a rewarding time to see talented young journalists come together under one roof to remind us how important and impactful #publicmedia work is for the generations to come. 👏 Leah Clapman and all the hardworking SRL team who make this program possible. For my friends in academia, https://lnkd.in/g-gSRUBK is a wonderful resource for teaching the budding media professionals in your classroom.
