📣Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognized the Office of Nuclear Energy, U.S. Department of Energy ’s Atlas Railcar Project Team for the successful completion of the 10-year, $33 million Atlas Railcar Project. 🚂 The 3 railcars developed through the project are the first set of railcars purpose-built and approved to transport commercial spent nuclear fuel from nuclear power plants in the US. 🏆 DOE’s Under Secretary for Science and Innovation, Dr. Geraldine Richmond, presented the Secretary’s Appreciation award, and Dr. Patrick Schwab, who originated and led the project for 10 years and retired from DOE earlier this year, accepted the award on behalf of the Team. 🏅All Atlas Project Team members along with program leadership, past and present, will receive Atlas challenge coins to commemorate the Team’s achievement. Well done!
