In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth, we would like to highlight AOML Oceanographer and Chief Scientist for Leg 3 of the PIRATA Northeast Extension cruise: Dr. Renellys Perez. Dr. Perez was the Principal Investigator for the PNE project from 2017-2021 and is now the Co-Principle Investigator for the project. She has served as the Co-Chief/ Chief Scientist on 5 cruises (including this one) in support of the PNE project. She also designed the Tropical Atlantic Current Observations Study (#TACOS) project which adds additional sensors to PIRATA moorings to advance understanding of ocean circulation and mixing and its impact on sea surface temperatures and the atmosphere.
