Proficiency Testing, or PT, is a requirement that provides GFCO and brand owners with verification that manufacturing facilities are testing and reporting correctly. This extra step is a safeguard! An independent measure of the manufacturing facility’s ability to perform and report their gluten test results correctly, PT is necessary for providing confidence in all the testing data generated by the facility. GFCO administers proficiency testing rounds frequently and also accepts documentation of successful participation in other 3rd party proficiency testing schemes.

Any Ingredient with a risk level of 3 or 4 will need to test each lot prior to use or may submit an approved document to determine if the risk level can be reduced. Examples of approved documents: 👉A statement that the ingredient is not harvested, transported, stored or processed with gluten-containing grains, through a facility audit or suitable documentation which must also be available for review by GFCO auditors. 👉A copy of the GFCO certificate for the ingredient, also kept on file for review by GFCO auditors. 👉Evidence that you receive lot-specific gluten test results (certificates of analysis) from the supplier with each lot of the ingredient received. Also, keep these on file for review by GFCO auditors

It's possible to find errors in any of these process flows, that's why they exist—to catch and stop them and it works. ⌛ 🧪 80 steps in the GFCO program ensure the lowest risk of gluten exposure for the gluten-free community. 📝 💯 🥽 Should an error be found in those 80 steps, we work collaboratively to correct the course and make the necessary changes to keep certified food safe. Unless the product makes it to market, we don't alert the public as our goal is to fix the problem and not cause undue fear. 🔧 🧰 Note to consumers: If you suspect you have a GFCO-certified product that's made you sick, you must report it so that an investigation can address it as soon as possible. Apply to have them certified here: https://lnkd.in/d4ctfDS Our GFCO process has become the “gold standard’ of gluten-free certification.⭐ Here's what is involved: Each ingredient is assigned a risk factor, which determines how it needs to be tested before being used in GFCO-certified products. Ingredients that are low risk do not require testing such as fats and oils that do not have any protein. All high-risk ingredients must be tested in the prescribed amount per lot, prior to their use in finished products.
