This year’s “high(est) stakes” election will shape what students are taught, where they go to school, how they pay for college, and whether they can get a good job. 🚨🍎🚨 To contextualize candidate agendas and party priorities, we're spotlighting likely outcomes for America’s learners, teachers, and workers... whichever way the ballots are cast in November. How might the results reconfigure federal funding for #EarlyEd and #K12? Will they promote #college affordability—or further dry up access to #HigherEd? And is there common ground within the #EdTech and #YouthApprenticeship sectors? 💼🏫💼 Browse this important NEW BRIEF for an honest analysis as presented by policy experts from across our #education and #workforce teams. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eqMx5ujp

We work to improve educational systems so all students have equitable access to high-quality learning opportunities.
About us
New America’s Education Policy program works to strengthen and improve the educational system so that all students have equitable access to high-quality learning that prepares them for college, careers, and civic life in a time of rapid technological and social change. We use original research and policy analysis to help solve the nation’s critical education problems, crafting objective analyses and suggesting new ideas for policymakers, educators, and the public at large. Our work explores the full range of educational opportunities, from early learning to primary and secondary education, college, and the workforce. We bring intentional and sustained attention to the students, families and communities that are least well-served by existing educational policies and practices.

📌 JUST RELEASED: Do Americans still value a #college degree? How have attitudes changed in the last 8️⃣ years? How do views compare among (D)s and (R)s? Our latest edition of the #VaryingDegrees report—and UPDATED interactive #DataTool—provide these insights and more. The annual and nationally-representative survey includes answers to new questions this year about college affordability and how #education after high school should be funded. Per research and analysis conducted by our #HigherEd experts, Sophie Nguyen, Rachel Fishman, and Olivia Cheche, most Americans: 💸 … agree that cost is the biggest barrier to enrollment for most. 📢 … would like to see the candidates address college affordability. 👀 … want greater transparency on key indicators of education quality. To go beyond our top-line data findings and explore trends in perceptions of postsecondary value, read the full report that presents all eight years of #DataCollection below. 🎓🔗🎓 https://lnkd.in/gXBbpDmV And join our policy team next week to get the (scoop) yourself when we officially launch these new data findings with a summer ice cream party! 📍 New America's DC Offices 📆 Wed, 8/07 🕒 3pm, ET 🍦 https://lnkd.in/gEcAKgp9

Come work with us on this project. If you are a rural community college interested in health care bachelor's programs this is for you.
Attention, rural friends! New America is pleased to invite rural community colleges interested in offering bachelor’s degrees in health care fields to participate in a learning community with peer institutions on the same journey. This learning community will run from August 2024 to January 2025 and focus on identifying institutional goals, building relationships with peer institutions, and building on peer institutions’ experience with health-related CCB programs and expert guidance to make measurable steps toward identified goals. Each college will have two one-on-one calls with New America staff to identify goals and how we can best support you, and we’ll have four virtual learning sessions with peer institutions and invited speakers from colleges who have started and run bachelor’s degree programs in allied health and want to share their experiences. We welcome applications from rural community colleges in the early stages of exploring bachelor’s degree programs in any health-related fields and colleges already offering other bachelor’s degrees considering expanding their program offerings into health care. Feel free to message or email me with questions, or just go ahead and apply here before August 15 for full consideration. https://lnkd.in/enfnv2_2

Evidence shows that Early Intervention (EI) works – these services can radically improve long-term development for the infants and toddlers who have a medical condition or diagnosis that makes them at substantial risk for a developmental delay and disability. However, our current EI system is overwhelmed and underfunded. Data shows that we are under-serving eligible infants and toddlers, especially for babies under 1-year-old. Thousands of eligible babies under 1 aren’t getting these critical services. Nationally and in Illinois only about 1% of babies under 1 are getting EI. Start Early’s Karen Berman sat down with New America to discuss the unique challenges for babies under age one and their families in accessing EI services https://lnkd.in/givw7PUu
Why aren’t we serving enough infants in early intervention?

By design—and through use of the powerful enrollment management industry—colleges are "leaving low-income students with large funding gaps to get the students they want most." 🎓 💰 🎓 And for many years, our policy expert and team advisor, Stephen Burd, researched how this industry steered students and their families to take out wildly large loans, further limiting opportunity and affordability in #HigherEd for those who need it most. Now, he's warning of a resulting subprime loan crisis, if proper federal action is not taken. 🚨 📖 🚨 Consult Chapter 8 of "𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑽𝒆𝒊𝒍 𝒐𝒏 𝑬𝒏𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕" for his insights into the (absurdly aggressive) #FinancialAid leveraging strategies that "push colleges to use more and more of their institutional aid to offer the most generous tuition discounts to the wealthiest applicants to help them raise their prestige and improve their bottom line." Find out how we avoid this "looming disaster" and expose the shady operation responsible in this new book edited by Stephen himself. ➡️ This "must-read" is available here for purchase: https://lnkd.in/etqQeGrm ➡️ And summarized here in a recent blog: https://lnkd.in/e3qnfvVU

So great to partner with New America and Carrie Gillispie to explore why, as a nation, we are leaving so many babies under 1 without critical Early Intervention (Part C) services and how we can improve our state systems to make sure we don’t leave these babies behind.
