Are you familiar with the Aspen Institute’s Criminal Justice Reform Initiative? The Aspen Criminal Justice Reform Initiative focuses on supporting and spreading the word about innovative local practices that can transform how we think of justice in the United States. Through Justice and Governance Partnerships, Aspen CJRI provides funding, and technical assistance, and implements tools like the Justice Audit and Justice Reinvestment Plan to help mid-size and rural communities create data-driven, community-informed strategies for safer, more equitable governance. In this episode of #AspenIgnites, NPR's National Desk Correspondent Laurel Wamsley speaks with Douglas Wood, Executive Director of Aspen CJRI, about how this collaborative approach is revealing and addressing punitive, crisis management-based governance practices, and paving the way for more effective and just community-driven policies and practices. As we gear up for the 2024 elections, our AI Elections Advisory Council is at the forefront of addressing growing concerns about the influence of artificial intelligence on this cornerstone of American democracy. The Advisory Council's co-chairs are leading the charge with powerful insights: Alondra Nelson: “We already place a huge burden on local election officials and volunteers to defend our democracy. But we all have a role in responding. We can limit AI risks and keep our elections fair and safe." Kim Wyman: "These checklists equip election officials and others with the information they need before November." Klon Kitchen: "In the noisy space of AI and elections, we’ve zeroed-in on key areas where AI misuse adds unique risk. The actions we outline will help communities counter bad actors who want to mislead and discourage voters." These leaders have collaborated to produce comprehensive checklists on key AI election risks at hand, offering recommendations for election administrators, social media platforms, AI labs, and more. Together, we can safeguard the integrity of our elections and uphold the principles of democracy. Join the fight. Check out these resources: https://lnkd.in/e3bu3kjV #2024Elections #AI

This past week, I had the pleasure of attending the Aspen Ideas Festival where thought leaders from around the world come together to share innovative solutions and bold ideas. This was an incredible opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about the key issues surrounding #socialjustice and #equality and how we can collectively shape a better future for all. While there, I connected with countless leaders who inspire, including academic scholar Eddie Claude of Princeton University, hip-hop artist Common, and K.J. Hughes of Manifest. Barber. Shop. Bar in Washington, D.C. I also spoke on a panel about the future of American capitalism alongside Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), the Hon. Kay Bailey Hutchison, and David Leonhardt of The New York Times. #AspenIdeasFestival
