🚨The deadline to submit your ECMWF Special Projects application closes on 30 June! 🚨 What is it? Special Projects at ECMWF are “experiments or investigations of a scientific or technical nature, likely to be of interest to the general scientific community”, with a duration of up to three years. Once accepted, you will be able to run your Special Project using ECMWF’s HPC resources.  🆕From this year on, Special Projects also have access to the operational European Weather Cloud service. Who can apply? Projects are undertaken in co-operation between several institutions, nationally or internationally, for the latter one insitution must be from one of ECMWF's Member States. How to apply? Please read our dedicated Special Project webpages carefully: https://lnkd.in/eG9AvjVy 1️⃣ Define your project, including its duration  2️⃣ Estimate your resource requirements: Your Computing Representative may be able to advise you on the amounts available 3️⃣ If you are interested in using resources of the European Weather Cloud, add a section outlining your intended usage to your application 4️⃣ Submit your application: via the Special Project request submission web form 5️⃣ Await the approval vote of the ECMWF Council, taking place in December 2024 🔶 If you miss the 30 June deadline, you can submit a "late request" and might be eligible to receive some of our limited “ad-hoc allocation resources” – depending on availabiliity. The Computing Representative of your country can advise you, find their contact details here: https://lnkd.in/eKfaHx3w As always, for any questions and feedback please contact User Support via https://support.ecmwf.int

📣 We're happy to share that ECMWF will significantly reduce the cost of data and service charges 🔜 from 1 July 2024! 📣 The following reductions will be implemented for all new and renewing users from 01 July 2024:  ⬇️The Information Cost (the unit price for "closed" data) will be reduced by 40% (from €0.25 to €0.15) ⬇️The Maximum Charge applicable to a licence will be reduced by 28% (from €70,000 per year to €47,500 per year)*  ⬇️All data with a resolution greater than or equal to 0.4 degrees (~36km) will be open and the Information Cost will be removed – this data will also be under a CC-BY-4 licence - - - yes, this includes the ENS-Ext and Seasonal data, but delivery charges will still apply!  In addition to reducing the data cost, we will also reduce our Service Charge costs for data delivered directly from ECMWF. These changes significantly expand the existing Volume Bands while lowering the price to receive the data. More details of the revised scheme can be found here: https://lnkd.in/egZByJEj We've also introduced some new features as part of the Service Packs, including (features may not be applicable to all Service Packs, please check the page for more details):  🔸Unsupervised publication of data requests - change your data on your timescales, instead of UK office hours!  🔸Adjust the name of your files to include the year  🔸Availability of AIFS via dissemination 🔸Create your own feeds and control the delivery  The Service Packs have been adjusted and aim to increase the flexibility of our users to adjust their data requirements to suit their needs, while maintaining affordable access to data. To help you review the impact to your data costs, we have released an updated version of the Product Requirements Catalogue: https://lnkd.in/engjCsnT  In this revision, you have the ability to toggle between the 2023 costing scheme and the new one applicable from 01 July 2024. To take advantage of these changes, please review this FAQ page and follow the process described: https://lnkd.in/eSka-vhT As always, for any questions and feedback please contact User Support via https://support.ecmwf.int

As of 01 May 2024, the ECMWF AIFS real-time data can now be provided via ECMWF dissemination system alongside the IFS products to licensed users. This exciting development comes with a new naming convention, aimed to make the interpretation of file content and use much easier for all! The new naming convention takes MARS key attributes and places them as part of the file name:   Destination_Feed_Class_Stream_Type_ProdDate_Step_ValidDate_Expver.grb For example, a user destination is ABC and their data feed is B1. In this file, you will find data from:  📍class=AI  📍stream=OPER  📍type=fc  📍Production Date = 14/03/2024 at 12UTC  📍step=0 📍Valid Date = 14/03/2024 at 12UTC  📍Experiment Version = 0001    ➡️ ABC_B1_AI_OPER_FC_202403141200_0_202403141200_0001.grb Over time, ECMWF hopes to move this naming convention to the IFS naming convention to harmonise and simplify the real-time data provision, as well as to align this with the naming of the IFS and AIFS open data files. More information on ECMWF filenaming convention can be found here: https://lnkd.in/d7Np3cru As always, if you are encountering any issues, please contact User Support via https://support.ecmwf.int
