ECMWF Summer of Weather Code is a collaborative programme where each summer several developer teams work on innovative weather-, climate- and atmosphere-related open-source software. ESoWC is organised by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and supported by Copernicus. Developers, programmers, data wranglers and innovators from all over the world are invited to submit a proposal to solve one of the ESoWC 2021 challenges proposed on Github. The programme has four phases: - Application Period - 1 February to 16 April 2021 Browse through the ESoWC 2021 challenges on Github. Ask questions and together with the mentors, you can tailor your submission. Submit your proposal before 16 April 2021. - Announcement of selected proposals - 30 April 2021 The ESoWC 2021 teams will be announced on 30 April 2021. Follow ESoWC on Twitter to get all updates. - Coding Phase - 3 May to 31 August 2021 The 4-month long coding period starts on 3 May 2021 and lasts until 31 August 2021. During this time, the selected teams team up with experienced mentors and experts in weather, climate, atmosphere and machine-learning. - The Final ESoWC Day - 29 September 2021 The ESoWC day is the final day of the programme. All project teams are invited to this virtual event and present their project results. Presentations will be live-streamed. ESoWC 2021 in a nutshell: Developers wanted with interest in weather-related software and applications, artificial intelligence, open-source and cloud computing 13 challenges proposed and up to 10 proposals get selected each selected project is eligible for a £5000 stipend and if applicable, cloud credits from the European Weather Cloud or WEkEO.
