For Mucheru Munene, the principal of Yururu Mixed Secondary in #Kenya, smelly toilets and poor hand washing facilities were adversely affecting his pupils' learning outcomes. After an introduction from Sanitation Africa, our distributor in the Mount Kenya region, Mucheru immediately realised the benefits of upgrading his school’s sanitation. Now, his students face a brighter future with clean, fresh toilets. Toilets that are free of flies and smells and empower children to remain in school. This transformational upgrade is part of our School Toilet Enhancement Programme – or STEP – which has today upgraded 52 schools, improving the lives of more than 69,000 people. Find out more about our school sanitation initiatives here: https://lnkd.in/ebRfcJ5F Or, check out the inspiring story of Yururu Mixed Secondary, below. #STEP #schoolsanitation #WASH #sanitationforall

Kitui County is a beacon of sanitation and hygiene transformation. For years, residents in the Kenyan county struggled with a lack of basic sanitation and high levels of open defecation. Failed rainfall seasons worsened water scarcity, forcing tough choices between drinking water or using it for sanitation needs. The turnaround came with our partnership with UNICEF and the Kitui County Government. After launching a pilot, we witnessed the impact of our innovative, water-saving SATO toilets in local communities and schools. Our collaboration led to the wide roll-out of our products, the creation of community health promoters, and the establishment of numerous local stockists. Since 2018, Kitui County has been open defecation-free, inspiring the expansion of LIXIL and UNICEFs partnership to other countries through ‘Make a Splash,’ reaching 12.7 million people. It's fantastic to see Jerusalem (Eyerusalem) Taye and the iDE Ethiopia and SATO teams delivering impact in Southern Ethiopia. Announced earlier this year, our new #MOU with iDE in #Ethiopia aims to accelerate the country's progress towards UN Sustainable Development Goal 6.2. Together, we will leverage our combined resources to effectively address the challenges associated with improving sanitation in rural communities. 🌍 Traveling to South Ethiopia: A Journey of Culture, Landscapes, and Impact 🌍 Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to South Ethiopia with our partner, iDE Ethiopia. This trip was a profound experience, immersing myself in the beautiful culture, breathtaking landscapes, and the unparalleled hospitality of the local people. iDE Ethiopia Ethiopia invited me to witness firsthand the impactful work they are doing through their #WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) program. The primary goal of my visit was to support their Latrine Business Owners (LBOs) who manufacture and sell toilet slabs to the community. I was truly humbled to see how the SATO product has reached the last mile, transforming sanitation in rural areas. Seeing IDE's efforts to improve sanitation and reach the remotest communities was inspiring. It reinforced the importance of our partnership and the shared goal of leaving no one behind. Every individual deserves to live a happy, healthy life, and every child should go to the toilet without fear. No mother should worry about her child falling into a pit latrine. These are the woredas where IDE works: #KindoKoysha, #BayraKoysha, and #DugunaFango, located 50 to 70 kilometers from Sodo, the capital city of Wolaita. A special thanks to Martha Gebeyehu , IDE's WASH Director, and her dedicated team for the fantastic job they are doing. I am also deeply grateful to Martha for hosting me during this enlightening trip. This experience has been a testament to what real partnership looks like—working together to achieve common goals and make a tangible difference in people's lives. This is what I call a real contribution to #TSEDUEthiopia. I'm so proud to support IDE Ethiopia closely as we strive to reach our targets and improve the quality of life for these communities. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind. 🌟 #SouthEthiopia #IDE #WASH #Sanitation #LastMile #RealPartnership #CommunityImpact #HappyLife #TSEDUETHIOPIA #ETHIOPIA #SanitationForAll

Earlier this week, the Partnership for Better Living (PBL) – our initiative with USAID – hosted a product exhibition in Guatemala City, offering local partners the opportunity to learn more our award-winning SATO Taps and Stools. We were joined by more than 30 attendees from across government, NGOs and the private sector, many of whom believed the safety, transportability and water-saving features of our products would be well-suited to meet the needs of local consumers. Marc Valentin; Country Director, Guatemala; Global Communities, said: “The key differentiators for SATO products are the trap door which reduces disease-transmitting vectors, contributing to reduction of malnutrition, and their light weight, which makes transport to rural mountainous communities much easier.. I think these could be strong selling points in Guatemala.” With the PBL team, we are now following up with more local stakeholders who are keen to bring SATO to local communities. Nigeria’s technology scene is booming. Today, more people have access to 4G than safely managed sanitation. Now, it’s time we take lessons from Nigeria’s technology industry and apply them to accelerate the development of the country's sanitation market. In doing so, we can ensure all have access to safely managed sanitation and unlock health, social and economic value for more individuals across Nigeria.
