Top 10 Problems With Freelancers

Having To Be A Jack Of All Trades

As a freelancer, you must handle all aspects of your business on your own, from finding work to interacting with clients, pursuing them for payments, managing your money, and so on. You're the marketing intern, the brand manager, the finance guy, and the chai-walla all rolled into one! While being the owner and employee of every department is extremely fulfilling, there are moments when you desire a single, focused role!

It's A Struggle To Get New Business

As a freelancer, every project, job, and customer you ever get will have been gained through a continual bidding battle. For every project, you'll be competing with two or three other freelancers. This might be a draining way of life, but it is necessary if you want to succeed.

Managing A Fluctuating Income

Freelancers do not have the same level of safety and security as employees. You may make $200 today and $2,000 tomorrow. While your income is unreliable, your bills are most likely not. If you don't take a proactive approach to manage your funds, not knowing when your next paycheque will arrive might cause you to worry.

Demands & Timelines That Are Unrealistic

You receive an assignment, begin working on it and submit it, only to discover that the customer no longer wants it due to a "small change" in the campaign. And why wasn't that made clear to you? Let's not go into that debate; can't you just modify a few things and create something new from the start to fit our "small modification" while I continue to pay you for only one assignment? NO!

Submitting Tax Returns

One of the most common problems for freelancers is filing self-employment taxes. For new freelancers who are unaware of their specific tax status, the battle becomes much more genuine. Nothing taints the high of working on your schedule like a hefty bill.

Too Much Or Not Enough

Being a freelancer is a game of extremes all the time. Either you're too busy or you're too lazy. Either you have an excessive amount of money or you're slashing meals to make ends meet! On most days, you've immersed neck-deep in work, meeting deadlines and finishing projects, and a continuous stream of money is put into your account; on others, you haven't received a single lead. There hasn't been a single email, and there hasn't been a single missed call from an unknown number. And, although that's aggravating enough, the sight of your savings account gradually depleting may drive you insane!

Intrusive Clients

Some clients are so invasive that they don't understand their professional relationship's bounds. These kinds of clients can ping you anytime no matter if it’s day or night.

Ambiguous Demands

Ambiguous demands are one of the most typical issues that freelancers face. Some clients don't provide enough information about their wants and ambitions, leaving the freelancer unsure of what he's supposed to perform. Freelancers typically spend time on such unclear projects. Some clients offer highly specific directions that are often lacking in specifics. For freelancers, such assignments are challenging.

Homebound

A freelancer may be able to get by on days when he is glued to his laptop, working on his assignments. Because you devote so much time to your freelance assignments, you may find yourself unable to complete other everyday duties.

Workload Varies

Freelancing can be a feast or famine situation, but it doesn't have to be that way. Instead of squandering your free time during your ‘famine,' use it to find new clients and advertise your skills.
