Three Tricks to Ace any Interview

So you’re looking for a new job. You’ve carefully crafted your resume, tailored it to multiple job postings, and taken the time to follow up. A few opportunities passed on you, and that’s OK. But then you get the email. “When are you available for an on-site interview.”

Oh no.

Joy…anxiety…everything you’ve worked for brought you to this moment, the interview.

We’ve all been here, and it can be intimidating. As a ServiceNow recruitment consultant at Nelson Frank, we’ve helped dozens of candidates through the interview process. Follow these three tricks to off-set any interview nerves you may be having.

Be Yourself

Listen, I get it. We all want people to know how much of a wizard you are at that thing you do. Whether you’re a ServiceNow developer, a marketing and branding genius, or a top-notch chef, you want the hiring manager to understand you skills.

And that’s important. But it’s also important to be yourself. I’ve said in previous articles, people want to hire people. What motivates you? Why do you do what you do?

Remember Why You’re There

Remember, a hiring manager saw your resume, had a phone interview with you, and decided to bring you in for an on-site. There’s a reason for that! Something about your skills, experience, or expertise spoke to them. Be confident! They want to know more about your for a reason.

Wake up Early

Seems like common sense, but as my grandma always said, common sense ain’t common. I understand, your show was on and you just had to stay up that extra hour to catch up. But listen, don’t wake up an hour before your interview and rush down to the office with conditioner still in your hair. Wake up early, brew your coffee, review your materials, get ready to go.

I always tell my ServiceNow candidates, “have fun, be serious, and be yourself.” Tell your story!

Here at Nelson Frank I pride myself on helping ServiceNow professionals find their dream career. If you’re a ServiceNow professional and you need help with any aspect of your career search, reach out. I’m always available via email a.williamson@nelsonfrank.com or phone 267.322.2975.
