MSP Startup Hustle

MSP Startup Hustle

Over the years I always described Nucleus Networks as having a "startup mentality" in the context of describing our culture. When I joined in 2013, that's how I looked at the business. A dozen people with a work hard play hard mentality. It truly felt like walking into an MSP startup even though the business started in 2001. I talk a lot in my MSP CEO meetings about having a "sense of urgency" at the leadership level and setting the pace. This mindset is important across all aspects of your Managed IT Services business, not just the management layer.

The Battles vs The War

One of the greatest said it best when talking about the startup hustle:

"...it would have been a shame to have lost the war because of a few battles..."

Are you and your leadership team focused enough on the big picture? It's always a good reminder to not get caught up in the little things and to ensure you zoom out to tackle the biggest, most important problems. Feel like you're flailing? step back and calibrate your priorities.

The impact of AI

A sense of urgency is critical with the AI tsunami approaching all Managed IT Services businesses. It's inevitable in terms of its impact, some good, some bad. Embracing AI and the opportunity it presents is key. Sam Altman was recently interviewed by Logan Bartlett and was asked about new roles being created because of AI versus being replaced by AI, the answer was interesting and in the context of MSPs, I think spot on:

"...there will be a premium on human and in-person experiences..."

Managed IT Services Providers that are investing in the human element of IT services will not be commoditized by AI and will be able to command a premium by delivering continuous value to their customers. Instilling that "startup hustle" mentality within your business will ensure you're focused on the right things and prepared for the rapid evolution of the MSP industry. The future is exciting!
