Business Insider on the Big Screen

Get your popcorn ready.

We’re bringing Business Insider’s investigative journalism to life through innovative visual storytelling and two key partnerships.

“MoviePass, MovieCrash” – Produced by Mark Wahlberg’s Unrealistic Ideas and directed by Muta’Ali

Business Insider will premiere our feature-length film, “MoviePass, MovieCrash” at the 2024 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, March 9 – a first for BI.

Back in 2019, BI Entertainment Correspondent Jason Guerrasio published the viral story detailing the rise and fall of a once-beloved start-up, MoviePass. During a four-month investigation, Guerrasio uncovered that MoviePass was struggling behind the scenes due to an unsustainable business model, wavering leadership, and questionable tactics. Shortly after, MoviePass’ parent company shuttered its doors, and both companies’ CEOs were charged with fraud.

The documentary spotlights how modern-day subscription competition and consumer demand led MoviePass decision-makers down a tumultuous road, even though movie-goers embraced the concept.

If you’re heading to SXSW, attend the screening and learn more about how Business Insider is showing up.

“Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” – Produced by Investigation Discovery, Maxine Productions, and Sony Pictures Television – Nonfiction and directed by Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz, in association with Business Insider

The four-part Investigation Discovery docuseries — inspired by BI reporting — will premiere on March 17 and 18, diving into what really went on behind the scenes of fan-favorite kids' TV shows.

In 2022, BI Senior Correspondent, Kate Taylor, published the bombshell exposé about the toxic work environment experienced by Nickelodeon child actors on set. Serious allegations include accounts of verbal abuse, inappropriate conduct with underage cast members, and gender discrimination.

Now, the cast and crew are recounting their experiences and shining a light on what happened in the dark. Watch the trailer.
