Do you call yourself a leader? A manager? Or both? Here's why you should know the difference: As Stephen Covey once said... The manager helps their team climb the ladder. The leader makes sure it's leaning on the right wall. Leadership and management indeed overlap. But at the same time they require very different skills. You can grow in both areas if you know the nuances. Leadership is more about people. • Crafting a vision. • Inspiring & motivating. • Building key relationships. • Coaching and guiding along the way. Management is more about processes. • It's about organizing and planning. • And ensuring tasks are completed efficiently. Of course, a leader can also be a strong manager. And a manager can also be a strong leader. And for a team to excel, both are required. Here's how you can improve in each area: ➟ To grow as a leader: 1. Remember to Listen Actively Understand your team's needs & ideas. 2. Communicate Your Vision Make it clear & compelling. 3. Empower Others Trust your team with meaningful tasks. 4. Acknowledge Efforts Recognize & appreciate hard work. ➟ To fine-tune your management skills: 1. Set Clear Targets & Expectations Make sure everyone knows their goals & roles. 2. Plan & Organize Plan effectively and prioritize tasks. 3. Monitor Progress Along The Way Keep track of performance & adjust as needed. 4. Provide Regular Feedback It helps your team stay on target & grow. 💡 Bringing it all together: Combine these skills to lead AND manage well. And you'll create a thriving environment for your team. So that everyone can reach new heights. What leadership traits do you admire most? P.S. Repost to share with your network ♻️. Any questions?
The most crucial advice I can offer young leaders is to remember that leadership is not about you; it's all about the people you lead and serve. Your primary responsibility as a leader is ensuring that your team feels valued, heard, and supported. It's very important because leaders strive to bring out the best in their team and to create an environment where they can reach their full potential. By putting their needs first and working to serve them, you will build trust, respect, and loyalty, which are the foundations of effective leadership. So, always remember that leadership is not a position of power but a privilege to serve others. Improving engagement and retention through COACHING SKILLS for leaders | Speaker | Bestselling Author | Coach-Like Leader
Communication can be a challenge for leaders and teams. New leaders need to learn how to use communication to inspire action and get results through others. Whereas experienced leaders often need to break free from their command and control tendencies. But thankfully, @Ivona Hirschi has made this process a little bit easier by outlining 8 tips for team communication. I believe this list is an amazing starting point for any leader looking to make a bigger impact with their words, and incorporate Coach-Like Leadership into their day-to-day communications: 1. EXPLAIN A PURPOSE AND USE BECAUSE GENEROUSLY: This is all about giving your people more context. The more context they have around why they are doing something, the better they can understand what everyone is looking for. 2. ADMIT WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW: Leaders can’t know everything, so don’t pretend like you do! Lean on the incredible expertise of the people around you. 3. LISTEN AND DON’T IGNORE OTHER OPINIONS: Leaders are always better when they have the humility to work collaboratively and use the knowledge of others. 4. ASK QUESTIONS, AND SHOW INTEREST: People want their leaders to be invested in the work they are doing as it makes it feel that much more important and asking good questions is a great way to do that. 5. CHALLENGE IDEAS: Leaders who create environments of open communication also create environments of psychological safety. This means anybody can bring up and challenge any talking points without the fear of judgment. 6. APOLOGIZE AND ADMIT MISTAKES: Everybody messes up and makes mistakes, especially leaders. It’s on you as a leader to tell your team when you do make a mistake so they know it’s safe to admit when they make one of their own. 7. DELIVER FEEDBACK TO HELP EACH OTHER IMPROVE: Another benefit of psychological safety is that everyone feels free to give and receive feedback. It creates this environment where everyone understands they are there to help each other improve every day. 8. DON’T BE AFRAID OF HEALTHY CONFLICTS: There are going to be times when your team disagrees about something. This is the time when good communication shows its importance. It allows your teams to work through conflict respectfully and find that solution between the lines that you’re looking for. By incorporating these tips into your leadership, not only will you be a better communicator, but you’ll also be a more Coach-Like Leader.
