While the HEAT 🥵 is ON for many areas globally, the sun ☀️ shines bright with HOPE! Last year, the world’s solar capacity hit 1,419 GW, and this year alone, approximately 70 billion solar cells will be produced. The rapid growth is evident - in 2004, it took a year to install a gigawatt of solar-power capacity; by 2016, a week sufficed. In 2023, SINGLE DAYS saw a gigawatt installation worldwide. For 2024, analysts expect 520-655 GW of capacity will be installed‼️😎 Why does this matter? Decarbonization plans for the Paris Agreement may have underestimated the solar boom. Capital costs fell by 95% by 2020, far surpassing predictions. Despite transmission and permitting obstacles for scaling even faster, the storage of solar-generated electrons is also now economically viable, with battery storage costs dropping by 99% over 30 years‼️ China, the world’s biggest polluter, leads the charge, aiming for 1,200 GW of wind and solar capacity by 2024. Lithium-ion battery prices dropping rapidly paves the way for global road transport decarbonization. As #extremeheat highlights societal inequalities, the signs of a clean energy revolution are evident inspiring me, and The CLEO Institute, to propel this boulder forward. In a world facing rising temperatures 🌡️ and political tensions, the #cleanenergy revolution offers tremendous promise. 🌍 AVg global temperature has been 1.5°C above the pre-industrial era for 12 successive months, according to @CopernicusECMWF. 🌡️ It was the hottest June on record and the 13th month in a row to set a monthly temp record. #ClimateEmergency

This is another step backwards and a disservice to students in Florida. We condemn it & hope others will do too!

I have always said that if Miami was ground zero for the climate crisis, we CAN ALSO BE GROUND ZERO FOR CLIMATE SOLUTIONS! 🙌🏼 Proud of our community of climate advocates. It is important to note that less than 15 years ago we did not have an Office of Resilience and CLEO's founder, Caroline Lewis, was bringing students with life jackets 🛟 to the Board of County Commissioners asking them to add funding to the county budget to deal with sea level rise issues amongst others partners. Dealing with an existential issue like global heating takes time and resolution. It takes a village, It takes leadership, and It takes vision! A big huge thanks to our Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and to Francesca de Quesada Covey, Galen Treuer, Jennifer Baez, and the rest of the Climate Ready Tech Hub team for your hard work, leadership and vision! From time to time there comes a documentary (or movie or a book) that changes the way you look at things or make you feel you are not alone struggling with your struggles. Uncharitable Movie is that kind of movie. It is also a book inspired by one of the greatest TED Talks of all times The world is being compounded by crises all around with complex systemic issues that we hope can be solved by the non-profit sector where the government or for-profit sector can’t. Yet, how are they/we able to do so when the same sector that is to support them perpetuates them into an scarcity mindset model that does not allow them to take risks and or innovate or invest in marketing or talent retention/attraction with livable and competitive wages? FACT: Less than 2% of global philanthropy dollars go to climate action organizations and only a small small fraction of that to women-led organizations and even much less if led by women of color. Systemic change takes time, takes capacity building, and bold resolution to be transformative. It also takes organizations and philanthropists aligned in mission and values to dream BIG together knowing that the traditional model is not working but also knowing we must do better because if not now, WHEN? If not US, then WHO?
