🌟 What an exciting collaboration! Our Climate Equity Program Coordinator, Bereatha Howard, and Founder, Caroline Lewis, joined an insightful session on affordable housing and climate change in Miami-Dade County. Hosted by @UMiami's CCE and @SFCDC, the event brought together leaders like Jackie Gross-Kellogg, Sam Chesser (SFCDC & Self-Help Credit Union), Kimberly T. Henderson (SFCDC & Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida), Brittany Morgan (SFCDC & The Miami Foundation), and Robin F. Bachin (UM's CCE). We're thrilled there's such a powerhouse team working on this vital issue! 🌍✨ University of Miami South Florida Community Development Coalition (SFCDC)

🌍 Rising temperatures and climate anxiety are increasingly linked, especially in Florida. Olivia Collins, Vice President of Operations & Programs at The CLEO Institute, shares her experience with climate anxiety, a concern impacting many, particularly younger generations with Miami Herald. Experts at Yale University define it this way: distress about climate change and its impacts on the landscape and human existence. It can manifest as intrusive thoughts or troubled feelings about the future of the world. 🧠 As reported in the article, a 2021 study in The Lancet surveyed 10,000 youths in several countries. The majority of respondents said they were worried about climate change, while more than 50% reported feeling sad, anxious, or guilty. More than 45% said their feelings about climate change were strong enough to negatively affect their daily lives. . Every year, millions of tons of plastic pollute our oceans, harming wildlife and threatening the environment. But it's not too late to turn the tide! As #PlasticFreeJuly concludes, join the global movement and pledge to make small swaps that have a big impact. Swap your plastic water bottle for a reusable one, say no to single-use bags, pack your lunch in sustainable containers, and keep your eyes peeled for greenwashing attempts. While we, as individuals, are not the sole culprits of our deep-rooted, systematic reliance on plastics, we are responsible for shifting the narrative & advocating for change. Every step counts! Share your plastic-free journey and inspire others to join the movement. 🌍

#Mangroves are incredibly biodiverse coastal ecosystems found in tropical and subtropical regions. They play a crucial role in contributing livelihoods, safeguarding biodiversity, protecting us against the worst impacts climate change, and building resilient coastal communities for millions of people. Mangrove forests are vital in the race to a net zero world. With only 147,000 km2 of these unique ecosystems remaining -- we need to prioritise their protection and restoration for a healthier planet. 🌎 #WorldMangroveDay #WeNeedMangroves #WeNeedWetlands #ForNature via Wetlands International

Is the age of oil coming to an end? BP's new report suggests so. With peak oil demand on the horizon, the energy industry is facing a pivotal moment. BP's latest outlook report forecasts a significant shift in the global energy landscape. The report highlights the rapid growth of wind and solar power, driven by falling costs and increasing demand. Despite the positive outlook on renewables, BP warns that the world is still on track to exceed climate targets, with oil demand expected to remain high in the near future. Scientists in Florida have released the 1,000th Florida grasshopper sparrow back into the wild. Native to central Florida's prairies, the sparrow faced extinction by 2015 due to severe habitat loss. Authorities initiated a bold captive breeding program, removing the remaining breeding pairs from the wild to repopulate the species. This week’s milestone release at the Avon Park military range, facilitated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and partners, demonstrates the program’s success. Researchers have observed 56 nesting pairs across release sites, suggesting the sparrows are thriving in the wild. Despite the progress, the population is not yet stable enough to declare the species saved. Efforts continue to protect and restore prairie habitat. Still, the resurgence of the Florida grasshopper sparrow highlights the power of collaborative conservation efforts. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida
