I spoke recently with someone who had to consider laparoscopic surgery. He's tech- but not #medtech-minded so he brought an informed but open mindset to the process.
His conclusion? He'd rather find a surgeon using #surgicalrobotic tools because he felt it minimized risk.
The public is hungry for these solutions. It'll be interesting to see how quickly Moon Surgical's Maestro catches fire, but I don't think it's a question of if, only when.

The structure of this deal is so interesting.
🏮 Edwards Lifesciences is committing three identical amounts ($5.44 million) for equity, options and licensing of Affluent Medical#structuralheart technology - totaling $16.3 million cited in the headline.
🏮That's roughly what publicly traded Affluent lost last year - 15.4 million Euros (which today is $16.6m).
🏮 Affluent's market cap is only 60 million Euros, so Edwards probably could have acquired the company out right.
Edwards is focused exclusively on structural heart projects now, so it'll be interesting to see if this is a conservative investment model for deals going forward.

Few sectors within #medtech NEED #surgicalrobotics like the #neurovascular space.
At the recent #SRS2024, more than a half dozen #roboticsurgery#startups explained how they were building systems that - in my opinion - will have a greater impact on patient outcomes than any other sector by delivering life-saving care to patients who have suffered a stroke.
☝ There are simply too few medical professionals who are skilled at retrieving clots which, if left untreated, can kill 2 million brain cells EVERY MINUTE.
🤘 And too MANY people live outside the major urban centers where access to those surgeons is barely sufficient.
What can a robot do?
👩🔬 Create a deeper bench - Adnan Siddiqui, MD, PhD says removing clots is among the easiest procedures for #neurosurgeons. A surgical robotic system that uses data, AI and other performance booster can increase the number of qualified professionals.
🎯 Instantly deliver expert advice - I was surprised to learn how far #telesurgery has come. While many companies boasted of procedures being performed with the surgeons and patients on different continents, Dr. Siddiqui says vast distances are impressive, but surgical robotics systems can be part of much tighter geographically focused hub-and-spoke model where one experienced surgeon can be ready to assist in many places.
