This is going to sound arrogant but it’s not. It’s just honest and true. If you’re a company that wants to tap into black Gen Z talent and you haven’t heard of The Gen Z Club. There is a deeper underlying issue here. The Gen Z Club is one of , if not THE largest community of Gen Z Black professionals and Entrepreneurs in the UK. We have a have millions of impressions online have hundreds of thousands of followers and have had over 5000 attendees attend our events in the past 2 years. I’ll be surprised if there is Black Gen Z in London involved in the corporate world or entrepreneurship aged 18-25 that hasn’t heard of us , been to an event or seen the content of either The Gen Z Club itself of one of the founders. In fact please comment ‘Hi’ below if you’re a black Gen Z aged 18-25 and you have heard of the Gen Z Club. The reason I say this has nothing to do with gloating. But to highlight how out of touch some organisations are with the demographic they are supposedly trying to help or target. It’s so alarming I have to question if they really care or are even trying. It doesn’t take two seconds to type ‘black Gen Z Communities’ onto Instagram or Tiktok. It doesn’t take two seconds to ask a younger sibling , nephew or niece or even an younger employee where are the community’s I can find the demographic I’m looking to target. If you type in ‘Gen Z networking events’ you will pretty much only see videos of The Gen Z Club. If you’re looking to target young black talent and you haven’t heard of The Gen Z Club one of the largest black Gen Z communities in the UK I think alarm bells should be ringing. You should start to realise that you’re out of touch with the demographic you’re trying to serve. It may be time to diversify your team and bring in perspective and insights from the very people you’re trying to target. It might be time for you to get on TikTok and just study what’s going on and where they are hanging out. Social media gives you global reach there is no excuse to be out of touch in 2024 what so ever. If your strategy around attracting young talent only revolves around attending university’s in 2024 (A place that Gen Z are seriously questioning if it’s worth the debt and are opting to start business , get a apprenticeship or find just find an entry level role) that’s incredibly lazy which ironically is a word people love to throw at Gen Z. There is EXTREME talent and hard working people in Gen Z Black communities! There is EXTREME talent and hard working people in low income house holds. But some companies are so out of touch and don’t even care enough to get in touch they will never find it. They will ultimately pay the price for it.
