£530,000 raised! 15,000 units sold🔥 Kameese D. will be speaking at the entrepreneurship summit on the raising finance panel! Kameese Davis founded Nylahs Naturals a hair care product line that has become a beacon of inclusivity and sustainability. In 2021, Kameese took her products to the Dragons’ Den and was successful in winning £50k investment for a 40% stake from Sara Davies. Even though Kameese ultimately decided to walk away from her partnership with Sara (as she wanted more decision-making power) she has discussed the value of working with Sara’s team and the help she received from the process. Since leaving the Dragons’ Den, the business has done immensely well with a first-year turnover target of £97k eventually making full-year sales of £170k compared to the £14k turnover that was experienced prior to her appearance on Dragons’ Den. Nylahs Naturals has secured deals with Boots and Superdrug, Nylahs Naturals has now sold over 15,000 units with the Flourish Hair Booster Serum being particularly popular. Since it launched the product has won awards and has also been featured in Stylist magazine. In the future, Kameese hopes to spread Nylahs Naturals internationally and continues to work with outlets that take time to really understand the potential of the textured hair market. There will be another price increase on Monday!🚨 order your tickets now🔥

Focusing meant falling back on the fail-safe, mission-first strategy Bombas had used to master socks: Create the best possible version of a product so that customers will love it and buy it, which leads to more donated items. "That great product translating to more donated socks became cemented like two pillars that really propped the company up..." It is 11 years ago this month that Sonja Gores & I launched By One Collection - our own jewellery line! I started Run for Life - A New YorK challenge two years earlier with Jeroen Cornelissen with the main purpose of raising money for KWF Kankerbestrijding ♥️ but By One was the first company I founded that included buying materials, managing cashflow, filing taxes and making sure items were done in time. It was the first time I felt like an entrepreneur and learnt so so much! To be able to do this with my best friend (since 1999!) was just the icing on the cake 🧁 We designed and created some beautiful pieces, some things I still wear! Our rainbow bracelets on this picture were our best sellers 🌈 I also got bored very quickly after making one item multiple times.. so we introduced a concept where there were only 3 pieces available of some items. I loved that I we were able to pivot and play to our strengths so we could keep it fun, experimental and most importantly: a learning journey. If you are reading this and you feel like you have something to share with the world: DO IT! Even if it is short lived or doesn’t take off, it will provide you with great learnings and hopefully some amazing memories! I loved doing this photo shoot in the summer of 2012 and I’m so glad we’ve got these pictures to remind us of great times had 🤍☂️✨ #entrepreneurship #byonecollection #experimentallearning #memories

“TOMS” by Blake Mycoskie Link: https://lnkd.in/e3CR-ZvJ I found a refreshing blend of entrepreneurship and social responsibility in "TOMS" by Blake Mycoskie. Mycoskie's journey with TOMS not only highlights the power of a simple idea but also underscores the importance of integrating purpose into business practices. The concept of "One for One," where every product sold helps a person in need, resonated deeply with me. It's a reminder that success in business doesn't have to come at the expense of social impact. Mycoskie's approach challenges the traditional profit-first mindset and encourages us to consider how our professional endeavors can contribute to positive change in the world. As someone passionate about business ethics and sustainable practices, TOMS serves as a compelling example of how companies can prioritize both profit and purpose. Reflecting on "TOMS" by Blake Mycoskie, I'm reminded of a time when I witnessed the tangible impact of blending business with social responsibility. Last year, I volunteered with a local organization that to distribute shoes to children in underserved communities. Seeing the joy on those kids' faces as they received new shoes highlighted the real-world significance of Mycoskie's vision. It wasn't just about providing footwear; it was about instilling confidence and dignity in those children. That experience left a profound impression on me, reinforcing the belief that businesses can be a force for good in society. It's a reminder that the decisions we make in our professional lives can have far-reaching effects beyond the bottom line.

How does a business selling Eucalyptus Bed Sheets supposedly make 2.5M/yr? Well, we all have to sleep at some point. Comfort and Eco-friendly products are always going to be in demand. Good on Codie for looking at the bigger picture and promoting these start-ups.
Investing millions in Main St businesses & teaching you how to own the rest | HoldCo, VC fund, Founder
I just found a business making $2.5M/yr selling eucalyptus bed sheets. And the founders had no prior experience in textiles... But the best part? It’s called "Sheets and Giggles." Here’s the breakdown: The company Colin McIntosh worked at had just failed. He wanted to start a new biz & listed out important criteria like: • A large, competitive market (with proven demand) to differentiate in • A market with no brand loyalty/affinity • A product with simple supply chains He finally found the idea while watching a movie where someone sells bed sheets. He was a big sustainability person & eucalyptus lyocell came out on top as the most sustainable fabric for his bedsheets. He secured a domain & validated demand using textbook techniques: • Built a scrappy landing page • Spent a little $ on FB ads for traffic • Crowdfunded to gather an email list for when he launched So: now that demand's been validated, how does he build the product... given he has no textiles experience? Outside consultants. They launched to 500 customers on day 1 & exceeded crowdfunding goals by $20k. Then stepped it up with: • SEO • Actually funny emails • Great customer service (online & by phone) As well as their own Black Friday campaign, "Purple Friday," which bagged $22k in sales in 1 day. Today, they've: • Shipped nearly 200,000 products • Raised a total of $1.86M over 5 rounds of funding • Ranked #309 on the Inc. 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the US They also put their money where their mouth is... McIntosh wanted to build a biz that let his kids "inherit a livable world," so they've: • Donated $100k+ to charity • Planted 2 trees for every 1 harvested • Donated a percent of proceeds to their local community per Pledge 1% Colorado Respect for this. Anyone can spout an opinion. It takes an actual builder to create the world they want. ↓ ↓ ↓ If you like business breakdowns like this, you can get more weekly here → https://lnkd.in/eGmtANrR

On the flip side of my post earlier today about a white male-owned media company blowing through $50 million and then going bankrupt… Bea Dixon, the black female founder of Honeypot, a *consumer packaged goods* company, took her company from zero to $380 million (after rejecting higher offers) in LESS THAN 12 YEARS. That said…this article says that their current revenue is $121 million in revenue (other sources indicate per year), and correct me if I’m wrong, but valuation is typically calculated with between 5-10 years of revenue (link in comments). So…how does that math work out? What would that valuation look like if she were a white man? But regardless, please, tell me about the rational business reasons that black women only get 0.34% of venture capital funding. Something about your fiduciary duty to make money for your shareholders? #blackgirlmagic #startups #pensions #investment #venturecapital #poc #blackownedbusiness #liquidity #unicornbound #fiduciaryduty #beauty #cosmetics #womenshealth
"It's hard for anybody to raise this amount of money—anybody, period. And then when you throw into the pot the color of my skin, the body part that sits between my legs—then it gets even harder. It's important for everyone to see that things like this are possible, even though to me, we're just doing what businesses do." — Bea Dixon, The Honey Pot founder

Business inspo for the day. I can't even imagine how many often Miss Dixon encountered rejection of her concept and product. Success requires belief in your vision, value, time and sheer willpower. #blackwomenentrepreneurs #femtech #cpgindustry #inspiration
