Texas Rocket Engineering Lab’s Post

It may be cold outside here in Texas, but our team was red hot after their successful ignition test of the TXE-2 engine🔥 The Hotfire and Propulsion teams met over winter break at the Firefly Aerospace Briggs facility to attempt an ignition test of our TXE-2 engine. The duration of the test was 6 seconds, making this test longer than all previous Hotfire tests TREL has conducted combined, which is a landmark accomplishment for the TXE-2 engine! Topping off this progress is the achievement of a thermal steady-state in the engine's cooling channels. This milestone allowed engineers to gather valuable data to evaluate the current design of TXE-2 and prepare for tests with fully integrated flight hardware. This was a great leap for our propulsion team in finalizing the next iteration of TXE-2 that will fly on Halcyon! The test was a blazing success thanks to the incredible work of our engineers, mentors, and supporters. 🚀 A special thank you to Firefly Aerospace for their generous personnel and facility support—this would not have been possible without them! This was a major step toward launching our Halcyon Rocket, and we look forward to gearing up for our next TXE-2 engine hotfire which will be 10 seconds in duration with a higher OF ratio and chamber pressure. This will be key in pushing our hardware further towards flight performance metrics! 💫

Congratulations to the team behind this successful test! We're proud to support such an innovative organization in inspiring the next generation to reach new heights.
