One of the most iconic symbols associated with this festive occasion is the American flag, also known as the Stars and Stripes or Old Glory. The flag has a rich history deeply rooted in American culture and holds immense significance. The American flag's origins can be traced back to June 14, 1777, when the Second Continental Congress officially adopted its design. The flag consisted of thirteen alternating red and white stripes, representing the original thirteen colonies, along with a blue field adorned with thirteen white stars, symbolizing a new constellation. True, not all people owned slaves. However, many people did profit off the labors of slavery. Many people did form subsidiary companies that have slavery as a foundation. Many people saw a wrong and did nothing to end the brutal evils of slavery. And, even after slavery ended, many people took advantages of bogus rules and laws that saw a certain group get demeened to second class citizenship with an obstructed path to the American dream. Many people today sit back and do nothing while more subtle and covert actions continue to live on in a new iteration of Jim Note: the word “Slavery” is used for continuity of the readings. What actually happened was barbarism, theft, rape, kidnapping, and murder. See modern definition for Human Trafficking and see if the heroes of the past were not guilty.

I agree with Mark's comments, and commend them. I'm sorry to say things haven't changed. I now want to provide some math and context to my dreary statement. The census for 1860 was 8,289,953 free population and 3,950,343 slave owned population. 47.65% of the population was owned. According to Mark's initial comment claims only 1.8% of the population owned slaves in 1860. If that is the case 149,219 people owned 47% of the population. There are currently 341,323,002 people in the USA, 1.8% of that is 6,143,814. 47% of 341,323,002is 160,421,810 people. Median net worth in the United States is $121,700, up 17.6 % from 2016 Average net worth is $748,800, up a more modest 2% from 2016 Black and Hispanic families had strong gains in median net worth between 2016 and 2019, 30% and 64% respectively, though the typical white family still has three to seven times the net worth The top ten percent of households own 76% of all wealth in the U.S., while the bottom 50% of households own just 1% of all wealth It has never been us against you, me against you.
