I am reflecting on the parting eulogy to the voluntary sector delivered by Paul Streets, the outgoing CEO of the Lloyds Bank Foundation. Much of what he says strikes a chord with my own evolving thoughts about our sector, which btw led me to adopt the 'The Boiling Frog' as a charity consultancy moniker. I delve more deeply into Paul Street's message in my latest blog but essentially it can be summarised as follows: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: Never underestimate the extraordinary work of small charities. They are the backbone of our communities. 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀: We need to return to our roots of challenging the status quo, advocating for positive change. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀: Avoid underfunded government contracts that compromise values and effectiveness. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Working together amplifies impact. Set aside egos for shared goals. 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆: Engage policymakers to address root causes, even when they would rather not listen. 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀: Prioritise tackling inequality, promoting inclusion, and addressing climate change.
