📢 Staggering numbers of bankruptcies continue to affect the Swedish economy New SCB data shows the highest number of employees affected by bankruptcies in 15 years. Over 7,800 employees were impacted from January to March 2024, a 65% increase from Q1 2023 and a 160% rise from Q1 2022. Major cities like Stockholm, Malmö, and Gothenburg were significantly affected, with Motala also experiencing a notable increase. This in turn is confirmed in current employment statistics with 9,2% unemployment rate for March 24 (+1,5% compared to the same period last year) and 68,3% of employed by population (-0,8% compared to March 23). Especially concerning is the unemployment level among young people aged 15-24% which increased by 3,1% reaching as much as 26,9%. In his very interesting column in Dagens Industri, PM Nilsson confirms what has been recently talked about in Swedish business and political circles - that Poland has become Sweden's most important neighbor. The column highlights the growing economic and strategic significance of Poland and its implications for Sweden in the wider European context. Here are just a few arguments why Poland’s image is changing in Sweden: ➡ Economic Growth: In absolute terms, Poland's economy has outpaced Sweden's, growing at an average rate of 4-5% per year since the early 1990s. This rapid growth has positioned Poland as a major economic force in Europe, which also attracts new high-tech Swedish investments. ➡ Defense Spending: With a defense budget more than twice the size of Sweden's, Poland is heavily investing in its military capabilities, building a robust defense shield against potential threats from Russia. Recent military contracts with Saab include Carl Gustaf AT launchers and AEW planes Saab 340. ➡ Social and Cultural Transformation: Poland and its capital, Warsaw, have undergone a remarkable social and cultural transformation, making the city comparable to major Western European cities and the country fully anchored in the West. Here we go! On May 21, we start operating our new RoRo service between Gdynia and Södertälje with the M/S Lakeway Express, offering three departures a week in each direction. This marks a milestone in shipping, offering a unique connection for efficient and more sustainable cargo transportation between Poland and Sweden.
