There’s no “co” about it…

Just realized that Wake Forest Coworking is officially 10 years old this month. I'd started this in July 2014, and we validated the 'coworking' idea here in Wake Forest. Working from a home office has challenges, and for many (including myself), having a separate space helps provide balance between home and work life. I met Robert Petrusz at Bull City Coworking in downtown Durham, and became a part time member. Bull City Coworking proved a great space for me when I was over on the side of town, but it was too far away to make it a part of my daily life. , When space became available in Wake Forest, I took a leap to start Wake Forest Coworking. Since then, our neighbors Hatch and Loading Dock have provided even more opportunities for folks needing meeting space, an office outside the home, or space for their remote employees to work. Matthew B. and David McWilliams and Brett Geoffrey were here at the very beginning, and Kevin Miles Writer came on board soon after. While many folks have come and gone over the years as life takes us down different paths, it's been a great experience to get to know so many people and call them friends. A friend of mine just let me know he (finally) got hired. As with many folks, he'd been out of employment for months. I'm not in a position to share many specifics, but it was definitely some welcome news to get out of the blue yesterday. I think his first day is today, and I wish him well. I have no words of wisdom. However, my friend did suggest passing this along: "I focused a lot of working on myself and becoming an ideal employee, since I feel like interviews are getting more sophisticated with their behavioral portions and are getting better at determining who you actually are, and not letting candidates get away with faking it. So I worked on actually becoming a focused go-getter, and making sure that came across in the job interviews." We'd had lunch together a few weeks back and I could tell this effort had been a focus of his. Very happy to know he's found employment again, and I hope this may serve as a bit of a "yes, it can happen!" motivation for someone in my network who's still looking. EDIT: I wish I could post one of these every day! :/

When discussing technical issues with someone and they mispronounce a technical term, do you mirror their pronunciation when responding, or do you pronounce it the way you always have? I was going to airquote 'mispronounce' - there may be multiple correct or acceptable ways of pronouncing some words, but sometimes... not. One that gets me recently is 'Azure'. My pronunciation doesn't always match up with the other parties', and I will sometimes use their pronunciation in replying. On the other hand, I had someone refer to a mail queue as a 'mail kway' which was... weird. This was a linux system admin of... several years. I didn't mirror that pronunciation back.
