Laurel Rossi’s Post

Sports marketing was a major topic at Cannes Lions this year—and not only because the Olympic torch made an appearance on its way to Paris for the 2024 games, or because Travis Kelce was in town. The way fans consume sports is transforming, and frankly, advertisers must take note. We were honored to host an all-star panel addressing this very topic moderated by Digiday editor in chief James Cooper at this year's Cannes. The discussion dug deeply into Infillion's recent research report on sports marketing trends, covering everything from streaming sports to niche sports to women's sports! The weather may have slowed us down ever so slightly, but this topic and panel were too hot not to share! Here are a few of my favorite thoughts shared: 🔸 Lara Krug (Kansas City Chiefs): "The understanding of who the fans are in the sports world has really changed, and there’s still a lot of maturity that needs to happen." 🔹 Michael Colella (Infillion): "Young fans are watching something [on TV] and on their phone at the same time, merging multiple pieces of sports media in real time." 🔸 Grace Teng (Zambezi): "From a media perspective, spending has been up for all sports, even though viewership appears a little bit smaller because sports consumption is more spread out." 🔹 Samira Panah Bakhtiar, Amazon Web Services (AWS): "The future is firmly going to be interactive and immersive, and I think that’s going to extend fandom to new heights." A very special thank you to all of our panelists for contributing to this incredible discussion (that we still can't help talking about a week later!) 🔗: https://bit.ly/SportsFanInfil 🏈

This is a great recap, the shift towards understanding diverse fan demographics is crucial for sports marketing, especially as we enter Olympics season.
